OMG! I'm PISSED at the intro for Sanjaya! He SUCKS! Don't build him up to be what he isn't!
And the girl crying hysterically again for Sanjaya? Someone needs to put thatt kid of anti-depressants.
PLUS! I think it's complete CRAP that Sanjaya gets a solo performance, when other Idols who got kicked off, don't. Like Phil, LaKisha, and Chris!
UGH!!!!!!!!!!! GO AWAY SANJAYA!

Smokey Robinson, Gladys Knight - FABULOUS STUFF here! I am not up to Green Day, but this finale has some REAL STARS! :woo!
Melinda and LaKisha were FABULOUS and showed the talent they have singing with Gladys! I would pay to see that trio for sure :)

Kelly's on again doing Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band with Joe Perry!
Ok I take it back the awards were funny. I wish they would give to the biggest fan! :lol
Gosh where is Chris and Kat? They don't have much time!
I've really enjoyed the show, it's like a good concert. The variety is nice!
Callie
05-23-2007, 10:02 PM
I don't think they're going to have Chris and Kat perform.
And if they do... WOW! This is no 2 hr finale! More like 2.5 hrs! Because it's already 10pm.

Blake should of won. He was the most consistant person in the Finale. Jordin might be 17 but thats it. Now that a 17 year old won, My parents are asking me if I want to audition when I turn 16. Of course, I said yes! I'll keep you posted :)

I know this sounds CORNY and maybe a bit "Paula-ish", but in the end Jordin winning, I believe is the best thing to come of this season.
I feel like the other contenders: Blake, Melinda and LaKisha all have successful careers ahead of them. If these season follows seasons past, this group will have no problems becoming successful artisits. I think that Blake was in his element Beat-Boxing and he really will be just fine.
Jordin though will have a long career, she is a beautiful girl with an infectious personality and I think as long as she remains humble, she'll be a star.
Congrats Jordin!
ETA: I am sick of Sanjaya - he's 15 minutes of fame have been up for a while!
Callie

:yeahthat to Erika's comments
Sanjaya is so over with. Him and Taylor Hicks, I would be happy never to see again.

I really was upset that Melinda was not in the finale at first.
But once Jordin won and sang beautifully through those tears.
I really believed in her power and think America made a great choice!
Also, was it just me or did Carrie totally become the best idol winner so far?
I thought Kelly would always be the most succesful, but she was hot mess again tonight.
Of course, Kelly (and Fantasia and Ruben) are better on their worst day than Taylor is on his best.

I didn't give a flying fig who won - I was just in it to see RUUUUBEN.
But boy, Gladys, Lakisha & Melinda made my night.
Blake & Doug E. Fresh were off da chain.
The African kids choir were my favourite of the night.
Erika
05-24-2007, 02:47 AM
The African Children's Choir was SO GOOD TOO! I can't believe I forgot to mention them - such little cuties and so bold to be out on that huge stage!
My favorite though was Blake/Doug E Fresh with Gladys/Melinda/LaKisha a close second. Carries singing was great too.

Blake and Doug E. Fresh were amazing!!! I loved Blake doing the "Oh My God" scratch. :lol So awesome!
The one thing I remembered tonight about Jordin that I really don't like is how big of breaths she takes while performing. It reminds me of how Kim Locke used to inhale so deeply during her songs. I guess all singers do it, but for some reason I really notice it when Jordin does.
I am happy for both Jordin and Blake, but this finale reminded me once again how subpar this group of singers really was to me.
One more edit to just simply make one last comment on this season of Idol. Melinda Doolittle sure is a nearly flawless singer! She is such a supreme talent!

Me too. I like the song she sang, but I got bored with her singing it. She wasn,t that bad, just meh. :shrug

Really? As much as I love Jordin I can't see doing better than Kelly or Carrie. I could see her doing better than Fantasia, Ruben, and Taylor though.
I thought Kelly and Carrie were both really good but that could be because I love their songs.
FYI, the final 2 have quite a few studio versions of their songs including Jordin's winning song.

I don't know AIW, I think Jordin is potentially the MOST marketable person this how has produced to date. However, which direction her album goes will determine how well she does. Kelly remained in the Pop genre - where she excels - and did very well, as did Chris Daughtry in the rock genre. If Jordin pulls a Ruben and departs from the genre she excelled in on the show, which, like kelly, is pop, then she will be royally screwed like Ruben.

Totally agree. I think Jordin is extremely marketable. She's got versatility and she's young and fresh. I'm sure they are going to make her lose weight, so she'll be a "good role model" to young teen girls too.
Am I the only one that wanted to punch that little crying Sanjaya girl in the face? UGH. She's gross and so is anything remotely associated to Sanjaya.

Low-lights

1) Margaret Fowler.
2) The crying kid.
3) Sanjaya sharing the stage with Joe Perry! :mad
Hi-lights

1) Jordin's victory.
2) Melinda's performance. She should have been crowned the winner.
3) The African Children's Choir.

I wish they would stop focusing on that crying girl only crying for Sanjaya, she cried during the WHOLE show and when she was brought up on stage at the end, she walked right past Sanjaya and hugged Blake!!!!!!

Unlike Ruben though, I'm not sure I've heard Jordin sing anything on the show that was all that relevant.
Ruben had a few performances that you could just hear on a radio today! It's true that his career went in a different direction. I still love him though. After his performance on Wednesday, I'm still convinced that he could win in any of the seasons we've had of the show so far.

No way! Especially this season...
I don't think he could compete against this season. LaKisha, Melinda, and Jordin walk (or sing! :lol) circles around Ruben.
I think he got lucky with his season.

You are so far off Callie! Ruben could not only hang, he'd dominate this season. He's a better singer, more versatile and has a winning personality!
He had a way of just absolutely OWNING an audience.
He also beat the contestant with the most maniacal fanbase ever! You probably didn't have the chance to see his season I'm guessing. He was just amazing!

Im by no means an expert at American Idol, only following it sporadically, but Ruben was the first singer I was ever impressed by on the show. I believe he really could sing and posessed a lot of talent. In my opinion, the only one this season who impressed me to the same degree was Melinda. Jordin may be able to sing her style acceptably well, but I am not interested in that style, so I can't really appreciate that. She was inconsistant throughout the season and though she did seem to improve, like I say, she didn't do too much for me. I didnt much care for Blake, but at the end, I was sort of hoping he would win, since I did think he was a little more entertaining than Jordin.

Ruben was amazing in any genre. He knew how to take a song and make it his own. That was the season that I had the chance to go to two of the performance shows. I'm telling you he was just electric on that stage...

Sorry guys, Bo was the MAN! He could sing and he had a winning personality and I loved his voice...Ruben is good, no doubt, but BO is the man and he would have taken down either of these finalists! It just ended up that he was against the most popular AI Finalist ever - Carrie is like breaking records in sales and awards all over the place! I'd put Bo against anyone this season, or last and he'd own them.

I have to totally disagree! I couldn't see Bo beating anybody who has won. The only people I could see him having a shot against would be Jordin or Taylor.

Bo didn't even win his own season, so it's hard to make that claim.
Carrie has broken sales records, but that has a lot to do with her genre of music. Even Josh Gracin has had great success in that genre.
Success seen after the show is NOT indicative of your level of support while on the show. Look at the times the winner hasn't been the top seller for their season.
Even Ruben has had modest sales numbers. He was beloved as a contestant though and I stand by my (unproveable :p) claim that he would've won every single season thus far.
Plus, he also had the coolest hollywood fan base! Tarantino came out to see him one show! That led to a later guest judging spot for him on the show! :lol
One episode Brooke Burke came to the audience with her mother. They were both "Claymates", but by the end of the show, she admitted that Ruben had won them over!
I swear to you that during one of Ruben's songs, he literally looked into the eyes of the girl next to me as he was singing and sang to her! The crazy thing is, he seemed to manage to do this to EVERYONE in the audience! Ruben on that show was just a class above.

The thing about American idol is we always have to compare apples to oranges. Carrie's genre is country, and there's not a lot of country music I enjoy. She might be good, or popular, but its unlikely she'll ever do anything for me.
The whole idea of saying so and so would beat whats her name makes no sense to me, because it all depends on who gets the most votes (plus the mysterious producers input) on a given show. I mean, Melinda was the best, she "should have" won, but she didn't.
I couldn't really say whether Carrie the country singer could beat Kellie the pop singer or Ruben the soul singer...the comparisons just don't make sense...

Well I hate to be arguementive on a new board, but Rueben was versatile? I loved Reuben, he was my second favorite singer that season, and no not next to Clay (rolls eyes), but sometimes I got SO bored with him always singing ballads, I love ballads as well, but I need to be dazzled every week. BO won me over more then any idol ever but he's fallen to third place in my heart (he was second until Melinda came along). In the beginning I didn't want Bo on the show, by the end I was devestated that he didn't win. I say he's the only one to win me over since I didn't like him at first. Unlike my two faves, Melinda and CHRIS, who both won me over in tryouts and kept me hooked until they met their end on the show. Jordin was a good singer, I give her that, but her corny facial expressions and overly bubbly personality kind of irritated me. The corny facial expressions is what turned me off of Clay and Jennifer, the difference is, Jordin seemed sincere as a person, so I liked her.

Ruben slayed "Sweet Home Alabama". He was awesome on the disco classic "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love". He also took on "Ain't Too Proud To Beg", "Nights On Broadway", and "Signed Sealed Delivered".
His strength was singing ballads, but he could and did excel at everything they threw at him!
And don't feel bad for being argumentative. We all have opinions and yours is just as valid as anyone else's. :)

Well don't you worry about shouting it out girl! These are my top 3 American Idol stars and I would put them in a different order, but they reign supreme in my world!

I agree Rueben was good, I just got bored after awhile. I totally forgot about his Sweet Home Alabama performance, once I heard Bo sing it, that was it for me lol
Actually my Top 3 in order are:
Chris, Melinda and Bo, but I love them all. Chris STILL wows me to this day, and obviously he's wowing others still.
