I went to the Rolling Stones "Bigger Bang" concert in October. It was awesome. Those old boys still have it. Poor Mick, TV does him no justice. He is out there just playing around having fun. He was great! The stage was incredible. Several story's high. They also had a floating stage that brought the band out to the center of the crowd for 3 songs.
Excellent concert...All great songs...the sound was excellent! Especially being outdoors.
I bought my tickets online the minute they went on sale. I had a lot of choices for seats. Paid $90 a piece and had great seats. About 5 rows up on the bleachers, about the 40ish yard line.
The only complaint I had, was that the stadium ran out of water to drink and the line for the souvenirs was ridiculous. They had one area to purchase items, with 3 people working that area.
I would recommend to anyone: Go see the Stones if you ever get the chance!

Oh krazi...I am so jealous! I love the Stones and that sounds like an amazing concert!
I am hoping to see The Shins when they come through Denver on February 15th. Love their new stuff, really love their old stuff - just think it would be a great show.
Plus, they are playing at the Fillmore Auditorium which is one of the smaller, more intimate venues here which I like a lot better than the arena shows!
I'm still waiting for Prince to come to town.

I think Prince has had his last concert - I went to it in NYC, it was awesome. I'd like to go to Janet Jackson's concert - this is supposed to be her last tour.

We bought out tickets for the Decemberists in Denver on April 22nd. They are playing a "big" venue - the Fillmore - which is the biggest of the small remodeled theater venues here in town (we have like 5 of them).
I'm very, very excited and hope they play lots of Crane Wife but a lot of their older stuff too. :up
Anyone planning on attending The Police concert or the recently announced Genesis concert?

The Police ticket prices, I heard, were a little high.
I saw Van Morrison in Vancouver a couple of weeks ago. He tours very infrequently, so I was happy to have the opportunity. He sang a good variety of songs, from stuff released in the last year or two all the way back to hits from the beginning of his career. If you're familiar with recent cd "Pay the Devil", you'll know its focused mainly on old skool country music reinterpreted in Van's own inimitable style. The arrangements at the concert were clearly influenced by this, as well of course, by jazz and 1960's R & B. Van was backed by a crack team of musicians who all got ample opportunity to showcase their talents, including a steel guitar and fiddle. A week or so before the concert I was called by TicketMaster to be reminded that there was no opening act and that the concert would start promptly. They certainly weren't kidding about that. Morrison took the stage at 7:30 on the dot. He performed for exactly an hour and a half, then went on his way. No encores were forthcoming. Some were a little cheesed by the lack of encores, and by the fact that Morrison doesn't engage in any stage patter, or give and take with the audience. However, we got an hour and a half of quality performance, and if he's not a jocular, cheery type, then I guess thats him. The legend is he is famously tempermental and un-user friendly in concert, so I don't think one can expect anything more than we got. So, a pretty good concert if you are a fan of Van the Man.

No concerts for me, I've seen all the "Biggies" back in the 60's and 70's, I really don't care to see them looking like me, OLD! LOL!!
Especially after seeing David Bowie in the movie "Prestige", I was like OMG, that is not the David Bowie I saw in concert!! I was so amazed by his looks, he looked like me...old!! My daughter finally said, get over David Bowie and his looks, he's old, like you...pay attention to the damn movie!! LOL!!
Bye the way it was a great movie, even with the OLD David Bowie. :)

We saw the Decemberists on Sunday night. Wow. Do I feel old - not because the Decemberists are an old band, or because I actually found myself thinking, "does it have to be SO loud," or because I really wanted a beer but would not pay $7 for a quality beer and wouldn't drink Miller so went dry.
No, I feel old because it was a 16+ show and somehow 16-year-olds have started to look REALLY young to me. So young, in fact, that I was embarassed that I was excited for the same show as they were. So young that when a group of them behind us in line before we got into the venue was talking about how quickly that other girl in their class went "all the way" with someone I had a real urge to turn around and tell them that they are not old enough to be doing any of that and better be practicing safe sex!
*Sigh*
The concert itself was rough. The Fillmore used to be a roller rink so it is mostly just one big, flat floor with a stage on one end. Short of options we entered the crush towards the front of the stage which I managed to tolerate through an hour of waiting for anything to happen, the opening band and the first several songs of the Decemberists. But, when enough people shifted so that all I could see was heads, the group of teens to our left started singing along, loudly, with the band, the temperature rose to at least 110 degrees F and I still had no beer, I had to get out of there.
We tried to watch from the back but it seemed that if you weren't up with the fanboys you were at a cocktail party with everyone talking, loudly, and already drunk.
So, we bought a T-shirt and left. Went to the Irish pub down the street and had a couple Guinness for $4, each.
I may be getting old, but at least I still know what I like and I think concerts might be on the decline for me.
There are rumours that The Boss may be coming to Montreal this summer. :yay

Well, I saw The Boss with the E Street band last night and I now understand what all the fuss is about. An unbelievably energetic, passionate performance. 2 1/2 hours of non stop muscular guitar rock and roll. Each song is performed like it was the final encore of the bands' career. Bruce and Co seem to truly enjoy what they do, each other's comraderie and interacting with the audience. The musicianship is topnotch as you would imagine from artists who have been honing their craft for 30-something years. Guitars were switched out for virtually every song, with Bruce tossing one to a crew member and picking up another. I imagined the instruments as dried up husks being tossed aside after every ounce of musicality had been manhandled and wrung out of them.
When Bruce first took the stage he was looking a little long in the tooth, but the performance seems to energize him and the years drop away. He looks younger and younger as the night goes on. Miami Steve and Nils Lofgren are also very spry. One can't say the same about drummer Max Weinberg who looked ready for a coronary event by the two hour mark (Conan doesn't work him this hard!), However, he proved up to the challenge and did great work pounding out the beat all night long.
To me, the concert had religious overtones. The adoring fans straining to touch the hem of Bruce's garmet, Bruce blessing the crowd and items offered up to him. Bruce and the band are true believers. They are confident and happy practitioners of straight up rock and roll. It was like a gospel revival, though a gospel revival could only wish its functionaries had the passion and energy of these guys.
If you're a Springsteen fan and you've seen him in concert, you'll no doubt know what I'm talking about. If you're a fan and you haven't, then see him. If you're not a fan but you admire hard work, fervor and spirit, go see him. You'll be impressed. They make other bands seem small and effete, like Olympians compared to mere mortals.
I may seem to be overdoing the hyperbole, but I'm just trying to get the point across. They put on a hell of a show. I'm glad I witnessed the phenomena.
It sounded awesome, KF. :yay
I'm sorry I missed The Boss when he was in town last month. :(

I love going to concerts and I am always searching up concerts around the world (however I can't seem to make it to all the concerts I desperetly want to go to).
Recently I was back in Orlando for a vacation and I headed off to the House of Blues there to catch an amazing show. I know Orlando and that area pretty well and I have already seen 2 great shows at the House of Blues Orlando, even though I live in Winnipeg (Winnipeg does have the occasional good concert). I saw Dashboard Confessional and Augustana play at HOB last fall and this Spring Break I got to see Yellowcard: The Acoutic Tour with Spill Canvas, Seconhand Serenade, Playradioplay and Treaty of Paris.:sing
Hands down, this is the best concert I have seen to date. Every band supported each other so well and they were so excited to meet all the fans after the show. I was lucky to meet some of the guys from Treaty of Paris, seconhand and spill canvas. They were so cool and even had a couple drinks with everyone. So I got my picture taken with them and they signed some stuff.
Yellowcards acoutic set was great on top of everything. A great concert to catch if your into any of these artists or just looking for a great time. :up
I've never been to a concert I wasn't singing in :( Which is sad bc back at home in Greenville we have the Bilo Center, I think Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, and Nickleback have all performed there before, as well as Usher. And down here in Columbia we have the Koger Center, Colbie Calliat is singing here soon. And yet I've never been able to go :lol

Two nights ago I went to see Elton John!:yay
He was amazing and played through all of his hits for a soild 3 hours! The tickets were pretty expensive to go ($150 each) but it was worth it. Another kinda funny fact was that all the tickets for Elton John sold out in 4 minutes:eek on ticketmaster, the day they went on sale. Luckily, we were on ticketmaster the exact second they went on sale and we got tickets! Since 15,000 tickets (aka sold out) were sold in 4 minutes, Elton John added another show, the following night in Winnipeg. Even at 61, he sang his heart out and the whole audience was singing back. Just like the ticket prices, the merch was so expensive. T-shirts for $75, hoodies for $100 and jackets for $400 (dies hard fans were buying the merch like crazy). Elton John even signed a whole bunch of autographs to front row fans before his encore. Anyway, I had a great time and I thought I would share.

The Weezer concert was a great night. The foursome were very intent on entertaining, sprinkling hits and fan favorites from all periods of their career throughout the evening to a very enthusiastic reception. For a guy with a reputation as an introvert, frontman/mastermind Rivers Cuomo was a consumate showman, friendly host and engaging performer. It was a night of pure power guitar driven fun and (perhaps somewhat irony laden) rock and roll antics, which included a Hootenanny, a feature of this tour where fans join the band on stage to play a couple of songs. Unorthodox instruments (at least in a rock setting) are encouraged, and a fiddle, trombone and xylophone(!) were featured in solos during "Island in the Sun". The band to all appearances seemed to be having a good time and inspired a lot of love in the atmosphere, not the least of which amongst the group of drunk and 'shroomed out teens in front of us who felt a powerful need to hug and high five each other and their neighbouring fans on a constant basis. Thats when they weren't trying to reach out and touch the lighting effects, which were impressive, if not as corporeal as my somewhat addled young friends had imagined.
Toronto outfit Tokyo Police Club opened the show and played a sincere, energetic set, though they got a little lost in the hockey stadium venue. No stadium, however, could contain the egos of the next opening act, Angels and Airwaves, who came off, in my opinion, as silly and pretentious U2 wannabes. Guys, the originals did it better. Back in 1985.
Nevertheless, a fun concert, with a pretty reasonable ticket price. If Weezer comes to your town, and you are a fan, casual or hardcore, go get entertained!

I went to see Sarah Brightman on the weekend and she was amazing. I bought 2 of her cds at the concert and I have been listening to them non stop.
Elton John and Billy Joel will be starting their joint tour soon. If they come back to my city, I will definitely attend again.
I have never seen Billy Joel in person. Saw Elton John years ago with seats right up by the stage and it was such a good concert.
Hope they come your way.
Catt, I don't remember how much I paid the only time they were here 5 (?) years ago. But I would gladly pay up to $200 for a 4 hour concert.

Viva La Vida, Viva La Coldplay!!
Amazing concert. Coldplay is a FANTASTIC live performance, and I was dazzled by their two-hour long set-list and concert. Of course the band is very musically talented, but I was impressed by how they connected with the audience. They spoke to us. They joked with us. Regardless of whether it was or not, they made the concert personal.
In fact, once they walked into the audience onto a mini-stage that was set-up, they literally started singing a song / rap / rhyme that was specifically tailored to Winnipeg (we know this, because they even rhymed with our ex-hockey team and other things relevant to the city). It felt very personalized, and I honestly believe that they casually spoke to us and joked with us that would probably be different at every concert. They even mentioned how we've been waiting a year for Coldplay (they were scheduled to come in the summer of last year, but had to cancel for whatever reason).
Winnipeg is nuts for Coldplay! That's for sure.

I went to a great Canada Day concert. It was an outdoor free affair and the weather was perfect. We got there around 7 and just happened to run into some friends so we put our blanket beside theirs. There were various acts all day, I know Carly Rae Jepson, the Canadian Idol contestant from a year or two ago was there, but I missed her. I came for a couple of great BC acts, Bif Naked and 54-40. Bif had the somewhat thankless task of performing in the cold light of day (actually it was very warm, with the sun in her eyes). Nevertheless, her performance was spirited, if a little sloppy. She does have some really good songs though I Love Myself Today, Moment of Weakness and Lucky spring to mind for me.
54-40 were headlining and they were great, really sharp. It certainly didn't matter to them that this was a free concert, they worked hard to entertain. I was extremely happy with their set list, I knew and loved every song. I've been a pretty big fan of theirs for years, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me, but it was great. For those of you unfamiliar with the band (pretty much everyone, I imagine; though they do get a lot of radio play in their home province at least) their most famous song "I Go Blind" was covered by Hootie and the Blowfish and was featured on the show "Friends". Hootie gave it a game effort but couldn't really hold a candle to the original, I'm afraid. Probably the most iconic moment, for a Canada Day concert, occured when the stoned older guy who had been dancing all night met the guy dressed up like a beaver, carrying a large Canadian flag tied to a hockey stick. They mey met, hugged, and proceded to slow dance. It seemed like the beaver wanted, at some point, to get away, but that wish was not granted promptly.
A pretty impressive fireworks display capped off the concert, and I left the crowd to ooh and aah to escape to my vehicle, parked a good distance away so as not to become caught up in the inevitable traffic jam. All in all, a great evening's entertainment!
Oh man, I can't wait to see "JP Soars and the Red Hots" at the Jazz Festival tonight!

wow. Thats awesome Daniel. You have to go to some of those concerts and tell me about them!
I went to Green Day and The Bravery the other night and I thought it was great. The Bravery is one of my favorite bands and I was so happy to see them live. Green Day was full of energy and brought lots of people on stage to sing with them and play guitar. Billie Joe even had a t-shirt gun and shot t-shirts into the crowd. Billie Joe got the whole audience to do whatever he wanted, people were mesmerized by him. Concert was a lot of fun.

As a non-US resident I was unable to buy tickets on ticketmaster so I had to buy them at some ticket office today. Now they told me it is sold out :( Don't know them very well but I was really looking forward seeing them live :/

I have seen Modest Mouse live, they are fun, but its really too bad it was sold out. It sucks you couldn't but it before you left. Sorry to hear the news Daniel. Hope things brighten up for you. Its too bad you missed Lollapalooza. I would love to go to that music festival.

Thanks Alexandra :) Yeah I went to see some Nashville band called "The Coal Men" in The House of Blues the other night. Never heard of them, but I just wanted to attend a concert during my stay lol. It was great, great band, great music, great experience! I even talked to the lead singer for a while and he gave us a beer. So cool :)

That sounds really amazing Daniel! I am glad you got to see a concert. I love the House of Blues. Never been to the Chicago one, but i have seen some concerts at the House of Blues Orlando and New Orleans.
I went to the Adam Lambert concert this week. For some reason there were a lot of other people cluttering up the stage, but he was very gracious and let them all do a couple of songs. Seriously, some people were better than I expected (Scott, Anoop) and some were worse (Megan, Michael). Matt was great (hometown crowd so I'm sure he brought a little something extra). Lil was good; Chris was also but a little more laid back than I expected. He gets major props for doing one of my favoirte Rob Thomas songs, though. It was clearly an Adam crowd, and he didn't disappoint. From the second he set foot on stage (well into the second half, since they went numerically) it was like the room had been plugged into 220V. I was third row center - expensive but worth every penny. I could not wipe the smile off my face for hours. He's a star, pure and simple.

Now, that was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I love bands like Athlete and when they start they are usually sort of experimental. Later on they tend to get more mainstream and start sounding like the popular bands out there, like Coldplay. Nothing wrong with that, but the experimental sound is so cool and fresh. However, those bands tend to play newer songs during their concerts to entertain the 'new' fans. A good example is Snow Patrol; they have 5 albums, of which the first 2 are really different and less mainstream. However, they never play those songs during their concerts. This was different. Athlete have 4 albums out, of which the first one was by far the most unique and experimental one. They played almost the entire first album and only a couple of newer songs. Half of the crowd didn't even know their old stuff, but they rocked and the crowd was super enthusiastic about them. That was simply amazing :).

Thanks Alexandra. It was the first time she ever played here ( Ottawa). Apparently she is afraid to fly and she hates long road trips. ( Can't say that I blame her about the roadtrips..she is almost 70 )
I would love to see Adam Lambert too.

Editors were awesome! They played lots of great songs and although their new songs are quite boring and repetitive, I really enjoyed their older songs. The singer's voice was incredible. Wintersleep, their first support, was great too. They only played for half an hour, but they are super creative. A very promising band! The other support, Maccabees, was terrible though. All in all great show :)

Dashboard might be playing in Hamburg (Germany) the 5th of February :speechless Would take me 6 hours by train so I might go; still pondering. Midlake will be playing there on the 4th... am I dreaming? *edit: oh, now it says cancelled; of course I was dreaming :/ Other option is to go to Berlin, but that takes me about 7 to 8 hours... *pondering*

Yesterday I saw Midlake in Paradiso (Amsterdam). It was OK, not great. It was different than what I expected. Their albums are very nice and calm, but they were playing very loud and the sound quality was quite poor. We could hardly hear the singer. All in all the musicians were great though, so it was still very enjoyable.
They'll come back in April, in Rotterdam (where I live), which is pretty cool so I'll give it another try. Going to see Nada Surf in April as well. I love love love that band :D
