Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a sports fan - even though my city (Denver) has plenty 'o professional and sometimes good sports teams. I have turned down free Broncos tickets, I have never been to the Pepsi Center as I have no desire to watch the Avalanche or the Nuggets, and I'm not sure what the Outlaws or the Crush are - but I've never seen them either.
But then, there are the Rockies, our baseball team. I've been to at least one Rockies game every season since I moved to Denver - often more. I love the stadium, I love the expensive beer and I love heckling Barry Bonds when he's in town.
So...it is with great pride that I get to announce that the Rocks are going to the playoffs!
It was a nail biter of a game last night and we even turned off the game before the bottom of the 13th figuring that the Rockies would disappoint us again. But then....we heard the fireworks go off over the stadium just a couple of miles away and were so happy to find out that they had beaten the Padres!!! :woo :woo
Go Rockies!!!! I'm sure Philadelphia will not be easy to beat - but I'll be watching the game and I'll see you next season one way or another! :)

The game was amazing! I kept wanting the Padres to bring in Hoffman, because I was sure that the Rockies could get to him. My brother thought I was nuts.
Then when the first two batters doubled and Holliday came up, I just knew the Rockies were gonna win it!
They have a really good team this year. I am picking them to beat Philly as well. The lineup they have doesn't really have any holes in it.
Here's hoping they go into Philly and give those losers a beatdown. :)
Doesn't really matter what other teams are in the playoffs, the yankees are gonna win reguardless.

Hmmm...didn't the Rockies sweep the Yankees in that very strange interleague series earlier this year? :D Nice thought though. ;)

The Yankees will have a tough time beating Cleveland.
If the Angels get past Boston, we know the Yanks can't beat them. They never do.
I'm saying Angels/Rockies for the championship. Screw the east coast! :p

Dennis, you just made a lone tear roll down my face while I dreamed that dream. :D

Rocks Roll Continues!
They went into Philly to face off against the second hottest team going into the playoffs. They leave Philly up two games to none and heading home to try to close the series out.
21 (now 22) times in divisional series history a road team has won the first two games in a series.
20 times in divisional series history that team has gone on to win the series and advance.
Elsewhere in the national league, the Arizona Diamondbacks went up 2-0 on the Cubs. It looks like the 99th year without a championship won't be the last one for the Chicago Cubs.
In the AL, the Yanks fell hard in game one. They don't have good enough pitching for the playoffs.
The Red Sox rode an amazing performance from their ace pitcher, Josh Beckett, to take a one game to none lead over the Angels.
At the start of today, the Angels had the longest odds to win the world series. I personally have no idea why that would be. True, they were dominated in game one, but if they win game two they would still be in the driver's seat. The road team's goal has to be to come out of the first two games with a 1-1 split.
Anyway, there's a quick update for anyone interested.

Thanks, Dennis. I haven't been paying much attention to the other playoff teams so that was great to read.
Yesterday's game with Philly was so great (I've been watching the games on my computer at work along with the rest of the office :blush). Matsui's grand slam was just amazing!
And now they are coming back to Denver! :woo Hopefully the Rocks can finish off the Phillys on Saturday as Sunday it is supposed to SNOW in the city. :omg Blech!

My favorite part of Matsui's grand slam was that the announcer said right before the pitch, "Matsui's power is down and in. So if the pitcher isn't careful, he does have enough power to hit one out."
Sure enough the pitch was down and in and then it was way up and way out! :lol Nice call by the announcer!
