SUPER BOWL XLII
February 3, 2008 - Phoenix, Arizona

Since the NFC & AFC Championships are today I thought it was time for this thread. Let's chat about the lead up!!!!

Since I'm sure the Patriots will annhilate the Chargers my thoughts for today will be............Brett to the Bowl :skipping

Well I'm all for the packers winning because They have been my team forever.

and I'm hoping some miracle will put the chargers in the super bowl so the Packers can take one home again.

Personally I want to see the best team win and I think that the Patriots, with a perfect record have shown that they are the team to beat. While I am not a die-hard fan of any of the teams left, I'd love to see a perfect season end that way for them. I think they really are the team to beat! Go PATS!

Dennis

The Chargers put up a hell of an effort. Without their best player (and possibly the best player in the NFL!) they were able to hang in all game long. What it came down to was that the Chargers couldn't get touchdowns and instead had to settle for field goals each time they got inside the 20 yard line.

Congrats to the Patriots for getting to the big game!

Agreed, Dennis. The game would have been much closer if LT was able to play. Also Brady did not have a great game and luckily Moroney stepped it up in the second half.

Dennis
01-20-2008, 06:58 PM
Well, I think Brady's day was impacted by San Diego's defense. The weather really helped as well. What was the longest pass Brady threw today?

It should be a beautiful opportunity for New England to showcase their offense on the biggest stage of all in a couple of weeks.

Pulling for the packers now cause of hometown favorite AJ Hawk.

Did anyone see the Mexican (?) female reporter who wore a wedding dress and proposed to Tom Brady?

Sigh, a media circus it truly is...

Yes that was hilarious...

Erika

Has anyone heard anything about this sprain of Brady's??

I heard on the news that he's not on the injured list....anyone have the info?

Dennis
02-01-2008, 01:56 AM
Brady is fine. He will be 100% ready for the game. I guess they called it a "high ankle sprain".

I honestly don't expect it to be an issue at all, but you can bet the announcers will discuss it constantly throughout the game.

Kraziladi
02-01-2008, 11:14 AM
It will be the 'excuse' if the Pats lose.

Kraziladi
02-01-2008, 03:11 PM
I added a poll.

I'm going for the underdogs!

Dennis
02-01-2008, 03:41 PM
In response to the poll, I definitely WANT the Giants to win.

However, I think there is no way on Earth that they will. The weather will be beautiful. The passing game will be on full display and the Patriots will run the score up.

Pats - 42
Giants - 17

I'm rooting for the Patriots! Tom Brady is too hot! :drool

Dennis

It doesn't hurt that he's a Michigan grad, does it? ;)

Callie
02-01-2008, 04:11 PM
There's lots of Michigan grads... I'm rooting for him cause he's HOT! :drool

Callie, how do you really feel about Tom Brady? :lol

Prediction: NE 35 NYG 20.

Davis
02-03-2008, 03:58 PM
Maybe it's because they are the underdogs, maybe it's because the Patriots always win, or maybe it's because a few of my friends are rooting for them (:lol) but I am rooting for the Giants to take home the win! :woo

In the end, I am not the biggest follower of American Football (wow, I sound very international when I say that :rofl), but I will watch the Superbowl! Heck, I may even bring my spoon. ;)

Will
02-03-2008, 06:28 PM
I want the Giants to win because my dad's a fan.

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 06:33 PM
That's nice Will.

The Giants won the coin toss and chose to receive!

alexandra
02-03-2008, 06:42 PM
The Giants are getting off to a good start! mmm, I think I'm going to take back my earlier views and now cheer for NY! It just seems like the Patriots are pretty stuck up and that they have won this SuperBowl already. I don't doubt that they will probably end up winning it but I'll jump over to the underdog side!:lol It would be fun to see the Giants take down the Patriots. I always seem to find a soft spot for the underdog, but my New England plays so well:eek

Anyone know who the half time act is going to be?

Dennis
02-03-2008, 06:46 PM
Tom Petty.

The Giants have a 10 minute drive that ends in 3 points. The time of possession is great, but you have to score TDs against the Pats. They don't go for FGs.

Erika
02-03-2008, 07:06 PM
I love TOM PETTY! Can't wait for half-time :D

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 07:14 PM

The Budweiser commercial with Hank is my favorite so far!!!
The two commercials I just watched were great: Pepsi's Justin Timberlake commercial where 'every sip gets you closer to J-T' and Telus' My Fave 5 commercial where the bball player is being called continuously.

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 08:10 PM

Mr. Petty's playing "FreeFallin".... Mr. Krazi videod my first skydive to this song! :D ETA: It was our first date.

Will
02-03-2008, 08:28 PM
What happened to Paula Abdul? Wasn't she supposed to have a taped performance shown?

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 08:30 PM
Paula's song was during the pre-game this afternoon.

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 08:40 PM
WOW! The Giants are killing themselves with penalties! 2 huge ones already. So sad.

Dennis
02-03-2008, 08:57 PM

Did they show the Victoria's Secret one yet?

Not yet Will. :lol

ETA: Thanx Callie!

Dennis
02-03-2008, 09:33 PM
As hot as he may be, I hope that this Super Bowl performance will at least stop all the "Greatest Ever" nonsense. Many QBs would look like world beaters with that offensive support that Tom has.

Don't look now, but the Patriots are moving in for the game winning score I think...

Will
02-03-2008, 09:40 PM
aww Giants are losing again. I hope they can somehow get another touch down and win!

Dennis
02-03-2008, 09:44 PM
Well, at least they know what they have to do and they'll have the last shot with the ball. History hangs in the balance.

Will
02-03-2008, 09:45 PM
I hope they can pull something out and win! And I don't even follow football, lol.

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 09:48 PM
Well now is about the time the Patriots start getting big headed. :p

Will they just showed they Victoria Secret commercial. It was just meh.

CRAP!

Giants score with :35 seconds left and now lead 17 - 14....

Pats with 3 timeouts left and they only need a field goal to tie! :eek

This game has been really good!

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 10:01 PM
And Brady is sacked with 19 seconds left!!!

Kraziladi
02-03-2008, 10:12 PM

Erika
02-03-2008, 10:15 PM
Congrats to the NY GIANTS!

GREAT game! It was a well-deserved win. I feel a little bad the Pats couldn't get the perfect season, but it was nice that Manning Brothers have back-to-back Superbowl wins!

I had $16,042 and bet $10,001 and I now have $23,429. So I won about 17K and some change...but after my 10K purchase I netted around 7K. :D

What was everyone's favorite commercial?

Jay
02-04-2008, 07:57 PM
Canadians can't watch the ads. :angry I'll look for them on-line.

Davis
02-04-2008, 08:37 PM
Giants! :woo

I just read this last page and thought you were talking
about real money :lol
So did I! :rofl At first when AIW said he bet all his money on the Giants and won, I was like "Wow, go AIW!!" and then I saw Erika's comment saying she bet $2500 on the Patriots and I thought "Woah. :eek Never took Erika for a gambler, but this must be a dissapointing loss" and then I read CFK's above quote and thought "Wow, I am an idiot. :p"

Canadians can't watch the ads. :angry I'll look for them on-line.
Yeah, it sucks, CRTC (Canadian Radio Television Corporation) overrides the commericals and inserts some Canadian ones. That's why I watched the Superbowl's broadcast on the Pacific Coast broadcast (American).

alexandra
02-04-2008, 10:27 PM
What was everyone's favorite commercial?

I think my fav commercial (although I had to watch them on myspace today) would be the Justin Timberlake Pepsi commercial. I wasn't too impressed with any others..Well, I would give an honorable mention to the Bud light caveman ad and Tide to go ad. I still have a few commercials to get through but those are some first thoughts.

But, my oh my. ANY of those American ads destroy our Canadian ads, if you can call them ads. I saw the same ad for a couple of shows returning to the CTV sooo many times. boring.

Jay
02-04-2008, 10:39 PM
Didn't like the 5 billion promos for "Dexter" or "Jericho", alexandra? :lol :down

Erika
02-05-2008, 12:04 AM
It's a funny satire though :lol Yeah Dennis, I'd guess you'd love it to be real, might even fly out for the occassion :rofl

Dennis
02-05-2008, 12:27 AM
Well, you have to admit, it would be exciting news!

I did hear Charles Barkley say on TV that if the Celtics won 70 games this season he'd walk across town in a thong. So at least we still have that to cheer for! :(

AIW
02-05-2008, 12:35 AM
Funniest thing I have read in a while. Too bad it wasn't real money. :lol

Dennis
02-05-2008, 12:39 AM
Actually, I did bet real money on the game...

Jay
02-05-2008, 07:45 PM
Was this the greatest sports upset in history? I don't think so.

I can think of:
1) Buster Douglas defeating Mike Tyson
2) USA defeating the Soviet Union at Lake Placid
