What happened to Michael Castro and Norman Gentle? I missed them during the results...

Castro did not make it. I'm not sure about Norman/Nick.

Norman was in the same room as Tatiana. They both made it. :yay

I love how they switched Tatiana from a room that makes it to a room that makes it. :lol

Really rooting for:

Alex, Jorge, Norman, Tatiana and the two friends. I really like them all. I'm shocked I only like one girl this year. I doubt she is making it though. :lol

Hollywood Round No. 4; Top 36 Chosen
Wed, Feb 11, 8:00 PM
The Hollywood Round continues; the judges choose the top 36 semifinalists.

Tatiana is freaking hilarious!! She is the oddest combination. She is absolutely delusional and a nutbag, but at the same time actually has a little talent. :lol

Overall, I think this season is going to end up being very disappointing. A ton of the people that they showed last night were average and many of them couldn't stay on pitch. I think the judges are going to have let us down once again this season.

I actually think I'm going to like this season a lot! It's definitely a guy's year this year, and with the rule about 6 guys and 6 girls gone, will a lot of guys make it through?

I LOVE Norman Gentle :lol ! I really hope that he makes it to the Top 36. There was another 16 year old kid that I saw for the first time last night that I really liked. Of course I like Danny and his friend (with a weird face piercing that I, surprisingly, like). I think I will end up rooting for Anoop, but he doesn't seem to be getting pimped as much as others.

I really liked yesterday's episode. Nice versions of "Delilah".

The best friends and Anoop are my favorites.

I also like the big guy Michael, great voice. And Kristin McNamara, the one who didn't want drama. Not so great voice, but I like her mellowness!

Paula's green outfit was :eek.

Dennis

See, to me the big "roughneck" is the most over-rated of the group so far. He simply can't stay in tune. I just think when he makes it to the semis, it will be one bad performance after another.

Coming from someone who called Tatiana freaking hilarious LMAO

I CAN"T STAND HER yuck, she's not even funny, every time I see her i just roll my eyes and wait for the next person.

Another season where only the guys prevailed. Too bad they have to make it all about equal genders *rolls eyes*

I hope to at least see Danny make it far, he's the only to give me goosebumps every time he sings. There's a few others that made it happen once or twice, but he does it every time.

Dennis
02-11-2009, 02:32 PM
Well, I think she is hilarious, but that doesn't mean I think she deserves to be there. I don't even think she should've made it this far! She is hilariously clueless! :lol

I think she is funny, but I don't think she intends to be funny. That makes her even more funny. Maybe I'm mean for laughing at her. I don't know. She just isn't all there IMO.

Every time Tatiana is in the shot with a bunch of people in the background, I feel uncomfortable for them. She's funny, but I can't imagine how irritating when you're with her.

How in the WORLD did Room 2 make it?!?! :banghead

Room 2:
- Alexis Grace (YIKES!! Terrible final day song.)
- Kenny Hoffepower (somewhat mediocre final day song.)
- Jasmine Murray (Oh my lord, bad final day song.)
- Nathaniel Marshall (dramatic kid, sang Disturbia, oh LORD)
- Joanna Pesitti (forgot the words, should be auto-elimination)
- Casey Carelson (messed up the words, auto-elimination?)
- Stephen Fowler (cocky and messed up words because didn't think he would, auto-elimination!)
...I JUST re-watched the episode, and not one person from Room 2, that I can find displayed superior talent. Some of the forgetful ones had good voices, but isn't the bar lower from last year then? I remember Simon saying forgetting the words means elimination.

ANYWAYS, I will be interested to find out what happens in TONIGHT's episode and who makes the Top 24. I am already dissapointed with this season. OF ALL THE GREAT VOICES, they always focus on the interesting/dramatic people. AND COME ON. I AM SICK OF BAD SINGERS. Why can't we have a talented Top 24? HOW THE HECK DID NORMAN MAKE IT THROUGH!?!?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!!??! AGHHHHHH. *takes breath*

Tatiana annoys me immensely! Argh.

Strangely, Norman/Nick has grown on me. I think he has a good voice but he has to drop the alter ego or no one will take him seriously.

I don't remember many names but Anoop is an early favorite.

Oh, Danny must be Robert Downey Jr's long lost twin brother.

Dennis

Norman/Nick has a very nice voice, but he needs training.

I like Anoop. He is one that I still have high hopes for.

Davis
02-11-2009, 08:04 PM
I don't disagree about Norman having potential. However, the fact in itself that I only KNOW HIM as Norman shows that he should not / will not win this competition. Keeping im in the race only takes a spot away from someone else who is serious about this. Honestly, I would have been fine with Norman making it to the final Hollywood day if he did not WASTE his LAST song with his alter ego. He deserves to go to make room for REAL TALENT, REAL SINGERS, REAL POTENTIAL.

Please, I BEG OF THE JUDGES, OF THE PRODUCERS, OF THE SHOW, do not choose people based on personalities or looks, but rather, I want TWELVE &$#^*ing AMAZING singers who I cannot possibly choose between because they are all SO GOOD.

ETA: Anoop, who? Well, whoever he is, he is the first member of the Top 24.

ETA2: WHAT!?!?! IT'S TOP 36 THIS YEAR?!??! YIKES!! THAT'S A CHANGE!!

Dennis

I agree with you Davis, but I fear this is going to be just like any other year and we will get stuck with the same damn stereotypes that they just feel like they have to include. Just watch, we'll get some rocker chick that nobody will like. We'll end up with some cute girls who can't stay in tune. We'll get the guys with the backstory (like the roughneck) who struggle through songs.

I don't know why, but this year it seems even more obvious than in years past that they are going to stick us with crappy choices.

Davis
02-11-2009, 08:20 PM
I totally agree Dennis. Although I think there have been some positive changes this year:

I like the addition of Kara! I think she has a nice personality, a good head on her shoulders when it comes to judging, and is not afraid to be the dissenting vote. Also, she has quite a voice as proven with her sing off with Bikini girl. She was GREAT!

I also kind of like this new idea of the Sing-Off. :lol I know it probably won't improve the quality of Finalists, but for entertainment-purposes for this episode, I think it could be kind of cool.

HOWEVER, what the heck is with this judge's mansion? What happened to the long nervous walk and elevator ride?! Also, do the judges REALLY live in this mansion? I doubt it. But if they did, I'd LOVE to see THAT SHOW. That could be more interesting than American Idol. Heck, FOX could have two reality shows going at once - one competition and one non-competitive reality show, HAHA.

But yes, I think we sadly are correct in suspecting the show's reversion to it's usual policy of contestant selection.

Update:

Von Smith made it into the Top 36. I support this decision; I feel he has a good voice and has potential. Not much more to say than that..

Cody Sheldon vs. Alex Wagner - the first sing off. I thought Cody was decent for being on the spot. Alex, however, I feel was a tad better in terms of stage performance. I think, in the end, the judge's decision was the right one.

Adam Lambert, I think, was able to pull off the Cher song for his final performance. I hope he makes it! (AND HE DID! - no I am not skitzo, but rather am reporting it as soon as I learn it! LOL). I think Lambert has some potential for success on this show if he selects the right songs.

Dennis
02-11-2009, 08:26 PM
Adam has great range, but I didn't care for his rendition of Believe at all. It felt a bit whiny/screechy and flat at times.

I'm still not sold on Kara. I think she is a bit of a bitch and unprofessional with the way she treated Bikini Girl.

Acfan
02-11-2009, 08:39 PM
Oh, Danny must be Robert Downey Jr's long lost twin brother.

:nod

Anoop is in?? Woohoo!!

My main problem with Kara is that she adds, 'I really do' at the end of her lines a lot. Other than that, I think she's been a good judge, except with Bikini girl. But she does balance out the male judges' total agreement there.

Groan, this two hour show is painful to watch. My interest is dropping faster than the economy. Show me the top 36 in an hour instead of d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g it out into 2 hours.

I totally, TOTALLY agree.

GAH. I can barely make it through those Results shows either. They drag them out SO MUCH. Also, the 2 hour shows lose my interests 100%.

Well, as I said, the 2 hour episode lost my interest. I stopped watching at :45. It all got so similaaaaar.

I DO! I skip commercials! It doesn't matter, American Idol is just so slow moving sometimes.

I don't just skip commercials.

I am just now watching and I love Taylor! She is probably the only girl that I have felt was awesome so far this year.

YAY NICK MADE IT!!!!!!

I love that kid so much. Im actually surprised he was so serious tonight. I definately saw a new side of him.

NORMUND GENTLE FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!

Dennis
02-12-2009, 02:31 AM
I have to eat my words a bit on Michael Sarver. He sounded great tonight. I think he easily beat the guy he sang against even though they let both of them through. I seriously didn't get how Nathanial beat out Jackie. That one I thought was a slam dunk the other way.

The female Jackie I don't care for her singing, but she has a really fun personality.

Tatiana is an absolute joke. She has a horrible personality and she really isn't even CLOSE to good enough at singing. She is a psycho! I loved when she tried to give the ring back to Paula. Also her saying that "all the guys who said I had to sleep with them to get my record made". :rofl You know she did them all!! What a trainwreck!

I was glad to see Kai make it because I remember his story and he had a great voice early on.

Overall I guess I'm much more optimistic now that I've seen the finalists. It looks like they went back to the original format, which I really don't understand. If they had this format last season, David Cook wouldn't even have made the finals, let alone won the show. I think it is a mistake to switch it back. I really loved the fact that you got the chance to hear the best singers every single week.

Another thing, this format lends itself more to show bias. I guess that is sort of what I referenced when I mentioned David Cook. He certainly wasn't one of the favorites heading into the semi-finals, but was able to win his way in. Now with only one shot, some of the contestants that we don't know very well or at all will not have a very fair shake.

Let's be real. Danny is already in the finals now, just on his story alone. Granted, he has a good enough voice that it is probably warranted. Still I hate that he will essentially get a free pass.

Aww.. Jamar didn't make it. I liked what he did with the last song. Not sure it showed how good he was, but still, he was pretty good! Better than some who did get through :(

I really dislike Jackie Tohn!

Sucks that we haven't heard the voices of some of the top 36. From the more obscure ones, I liked the red headed 16 year old. also I remember Junot and Alex! Like them!
