Well. THAT was a fantastic episode.
I was glad to see that Ben didn't have the heart to shoot Penny, and that she and Desmond are both still living... especially after Ben told Locke to apologize to Desmond for him if he dies.
What a perfect punishment for Ben. To let him live, but have to completely succomb to Locke's orders is going to be hell for him. :lol
I love how this show always has redemptive moments for each character. For Ben, it was that he couldn't bear to kill Danielle, or her daughter, Alex. He also couldn't bring himself to kill Penny once he saw that she had little Charlie.
It was an interesting contrast to Sayid shooting young Ben the week before. To me, the storylines of Ben and Sayid are very similar, their lives... the way they are... are more intwined than Ben and any other character.
Most interesting to me though... is it would seem more that Ben was made into the killer he is... who he is could have been prevented. Whereas Sayid was born a killer... but strives to be a better person.

It was a good episode! Lots of little questions that were hanging around that needed to get tied together were. I was wondering how the Island would be able to let Ben survive after all the evil things he has done, but making him Locke's servant is indeed punishment for him. He hates that Locke knows things that he doesn't.
Very interesting comments on Ben and Sayid, toque. I like the idea that they are like 2 sides of the same coin.
Its almost like Ben has been in power because he is clever and ambitious, but he is just a caretaker. Locke (and Jack, and Sayid...and the rest?) - their destiny is tied up in the Island's. Maybe Ben is just a wannabe bystander?
I was also glad to finally find out that Ben didn't kill Penny - but otherwise I pretty much nailed that prediction :lol
The Black Smoke is back!
:up for your prediction KF.
