Eddie Murphy to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards
Hmm, odd choice. What has Eddie done recently? I guess last year's experiment to attract a younger, hipper audience with Anne Hathaway and an awful and awkward James Franco didn't carry over to this year.

What happened? Why is Murphy out and Billy Crystal in?

I would have liked to see the muppets host it.

I've been watching the Academy Awards since the time when you only had a black and white tv and a very fuzzy picture. But through all those years, I truly, truly only loved 3 hosts, who I thought were just great at hosting. Bob Hope, Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal. So I personally would be happy to see Billy Crystal host again and hopefully there will be an actor who can give Billy some Ad-Lib stuff to add like Jack Palance did.

After years of skipping the Oscars, I finally watched the entire telecast.

Worst:
1) Angelina's leg. It was Brad's night. Why did she have to upstage him?
2) 3.5 hour telecast. Note to the Academy: if you want to attract more viewers, skip the lesser awards. Blech!
3) Billy Crystal's stale, dated jokes became tiresome quickly

Best:
1) Esperanza Spalding's singing tribute
2) Emma Stone!
3) Cirque du Soleil
4) Colin Firth's introductions of the Best Actress nominees

I would agree that Billy Crystal's schtick was a little stale. I know that he has been popular in the past, but it seemed like I'd seen it before. I generally do something else and have the show on in the background so the length doesn't really bother me so much, they seem to waste a lot of time with self congratulatory speechifying and clips acting like they're curing cancer or something. I don't think they should take themselves so seriously.
The veterans tend to give the best speeches. Christopher Plummer and Meryl Streep were good. And I would agree that Colin Firth's introduction had the right tone - classy with some humour to it.
