The Amazing Race 15 – Episode 6 – I Don’t Know If I’m BECOMING A Nagging Wife
I Don’t Know If I’m BECOMING A Nagging Wife

Greetings my loyal minions, Maxx Fisher here,
I’m married. In fact this past Saturday, Halloween was my 11th anniversary. I’m happy to say it has been 11 wonderful years. The time has flown by and I imagine the next 11 will fly by also. Brian & Ericka have been married for 2 ½ years, I looked it up. I would think that those 30 months must have felt like 30 years to Brian. I have only watched her for 6 hours of my life but it feels like it’s been 6 months. All I can think when I hear her voice is Harpy. Screeching Harpy. Brian has got to be in love because it seems like when he hears her speak all that goes into his ears is the sounds of Angles, but more on that later.

The episode started off with Cheyne & Meghan stating that their strategy for winning was to always be ahead. I would like to back that up with a “Duh”. I would like to point out that my strategy for quenching my thirst is drinking water. Because of their quick finish on the last leg these 2 blondes were at least 2 hours ahead of every other team at the beginning of this leg so naturally…hold the phone people. The next leg of the race was to take place in the Netherlands and the next flight out of Dubai was a Midnight.

This bunch up allowed all the teams to hang out and have some fun. The Globetrotters recounted last weeks “incident” at the waterslide. And it was at this time that Sam & Dan decided to come out to the rest of the racers. There was a lot of shock for some reason Ericka got up, ran around the table and well just seemed to act like kind of a fool. I thought at first Brian had the line of the night when he said “Now the matching bathing suits make sense” but then Gary upstaged him by saying “Should I tell Matt that he’s adopted now?”

The Poker Princesses, who at this point had not figured out that the guys were gay acted like all was cool and they weren’t upset, but you could tell that they actually were. They wanted a TAR hook-up and now that wasn’t going to happen now.

So once they arrived in the Netherlands all the teams started off even. Well almost even, Brian could not operate his car and by operate I mean put it in Drive. Ericka took that well. The flames behind her eyes only looked strong enough to burn down a house, not an entire city. They eventually got a local to help them out but the (first) damage was done and they were pulling up to the next clue box at a dike last. This little bit of the leg seemed to be pointless driving because once they got the clue they had to drive somewhere else to perform the Roadblock.

This was maybe one of the easiest Roadblocks they’ve had on the show. Simply climb the narrow staircase of the town’s tallest building and count the number of bells in the tower. Once you presented the correct answer, you got your next clue. Sam & Meghan worked together to get the right answer, but 2 heads are not better than one because Matt smoked them both and pulled ahead even though the other 2 started the Roadblock first. On the way out Sam told Tiffany the correct number of bells, 62, so she didn’t even really need to do anything on this leg except find the guy to give the clue to. Sam rationalized his helping her by telling us, the loyal viewers that he and his brother could beat the Poker Princesses so helping them was really no problem.

Even though Matt finished the Roadblock first he & his dad were passed by Sam & Dan and Meghan & Cheyne. Gary & Matt had stopped to ask a local for directions to the next clue, where the other 2 teams simply paid a taxi to go there and they followed. Flight time did the challenge for the Globetrotters and got through it with no incident or drama, that could not be said for Brian & Ericka.

When I saw that the Roadblock had to do with climbing stairs I “knew” that Brian would have to do it, because I could not imagine Ericka wanting to do anything that required an effort whatsoever. But low & behold, she was the one who did this task. I should have known something would go wrong when I saw Brian at the bottom of the tower with his arms in his shirt and not in his sleeves. That always spells doom (those that watched Kevin on Big Brother this year know what I’m talking about). I don’t know what was wrong with Ericka but she could not get this challenge right. It only involved walking and counting. I know she’s a beauty queen but she’s got to know how to do those 2 things right? The answer would be wrong. It took her at least 3 tries to get it right, at least 3 tries that they showed and she pushed their team farther and farther back.

After the Bells & Towers the teams moved on to the Detour of the night where each team member would have to wear a traditional Netherlands costume, a man’s & a woman’s right down to their underwear
Farmer’s Game: Ride a bike to a pier, strip to their underwear and cross a river, then play three rounds of Farmer’s Golf. They must play each hole in 8 strokes or less or they have to start over.
Farmer’s Dance: Ride a bike to the designated spot then ring a bell, like the kind at the carnival where you smack it with a hammer sending the ringer to the top to strike the bell. Then learn a traditional dance, perform it for the locals and then eat a piece of salted herring.

Meghan & Cheyne did Games because Cheyne can’t dance, even though Meghan told Cheyne she couldn’t golf. Sam & Dan went with Games too and zoomed passed the blondes who had to start over at least once. Gary & Matt chose Dance until Matt saw you had to eat the herring. Really Matt? Really? Maria & Tiffany went with Dance first, but couldn’t ring the bell after 30 tries, then moved on to golf. Flight Time & Big Easy arrive and take Dance. Flight Time, my friends, is an ugly woman. Maria & Tiffany utterly fail at Games and switch again.

All the teams are at the detour when Ericka finally finishes counting the bells. So they are obviously the ones who are going home, right?

I would like to take a moment to talk about the Globetrotters and the Dance. I don’t know that I have ever seen a team in all the years of the show have so much funny performing a challenge. They were great at it and the locals seemed to love them. It was all fun until Flight Time had that Herring. After the first bite it looked like he was going to hurl something and I don’t mean confetti. But he trudge through and they moved on.

Now at Dance the girls were still trying to ring that damn bell. Tiffany came the closest, Maria was a total failure. The problem was they were doing it wrong. It is all physics. What they need to do was have a long ark with the hammer. Their hands on the lowest part of the hammer and they needed to start the arc of the hammer as far back as they possible could so that it would travel the most picking up speed & momentum. If they had done that they could have wrung the bell in less than the 70 attempts they had made. So after failing again they switched again back to games.

Brian & Ericka finally arrived at the Detour and promptly forgot to read. They got in their outfits, which included wooden clogs and began to walk to Dance. Not since Flo have I seen such bitching moaning out of a contestant. Ericka was in rare form. She complained about everything and blamed Brian for even more than everything. After trudging through the Netherlands on foot for I don’t know how long they finally read the clue and saw they had to bike to the challenge. Ericka said she knew something was wrong, yet for some reason waited to voice her concern? So on the walk back Ericka was purely evil to Brian. Complaining about all the things on her that hurt, yet when he said he was in pain too she erupted with “THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS BE COMPASSIONATE!!!!” As if he had a right to be in pain. So they made their way back to Dance and for some reason they didn’t take the bikes to the challenge even though they just read that they had to do that.

They did Dance well and all was right with the world because Hurricane Ericka seemed to move on. Brian thought that the Dance was able to reconnect them as a couple. Somehow I see him thinking children will save their marriage too. Once they completed Dance they borrowed 2 bikes from some locals, rather than take the bikes that were provided and made their way to the Pit Stop. Once they arrived to find out they were “the fifth team to arrive” and not “Team Number 5” Phil dropped the hammer. He told them they were idiots that could not read and said they had incurred a 30 minute penalty for not riding the bikes to the challenge. But you know what they penalty could have been 30 hours because Tiffany & Maria were not going to finish this Detour.

I don’t like quitters on these shows but I don’t see that Maria & Tiffany quit. They knew that they were out because it’s never a good thing to see Phil coming at you while you’re in the middle of a challenge. They also knew that they were never actually going to complete the challenge. They were going home no matter what. So anyone hoping for an all women team to win, you’ve got another year to wait.

I leave you with this, my wooden clog golf clubs, if you were failing at both tasks, would you have quit? Is there any chance that Ericka will be pleasant next week. Is there any chance that Brian & Ericka’s marriage will last? Also for those that watched the previews for next week, are you on pins and needles like me for the return of an infamous task?

Jonathan and Victoria are still together, so if they can stay together, anyone can.

So anyone hoping for an all women team to win, you’ve got another year to wait.
Or just watch the Amazing Race Asia. It's practically the same thing.
