The Amazing Race 15 – Episode 8 – You Big Headed It
You Big Headed It

Greetings my loyal minions, Maxx Fisher here,

I originally got the title for this article from a comment Big Easy made to Flight Time about solving the Detour. But once we got to the Roadblock I think the meaning behind the title changed. You see Sam & Dan… you know what, I’m going to wait to get to that part. Let’s just say they were very happy.

The teams started out at about 2:30 in the morning where the clue provided them with a bunch of keys and instructions to take the ferry to Tallinn, Estonia. The teams must use the keys to enter the headquarters of the Blackheads, the most unfortunately named secret society. The only problem with this scenario is that the first/next ferry was at 5:45pm, about 13 hours away. That meant that all the teams were bunching up so the fact that Gary & Matt were 4 hours behind team number 1 meant nothing. Plus the ferry ride took 16 hours. Holy crap, were they walking across the water?

We did get a few gems from the racers before the real race began. The Globetrotters feel that the Brothers are the best racers (besides them), but they will have no problem passing them in any footrace (ALERT ALERT ALERT FORESHADOWING!!!!). Brian somehow equated winning TAR with winning the Miss America Pageant. That seemed like kind of a stretch. Also the Globetrotters were not happy with the way the Brothers acted at the last Roadblock, swearing, screaming, flipping the bird. I did not realize that they were the politeness ambassadors.

Once the teams arrived at the Blackhead headquarters It was Roadblock time, but first Gary & Matt had to perform their Speedbump, which Meghan almost performed herself when she tried to open the Speedbump clue box. The speed bumps are supposed to be a task to basically punish a team for coming in last place in the previous leg, but lately that task has been pretty easy. Gary & Matt had to find a Sauna Bus, you know a bus with a sauna in it. All they had to do was find the bus (3 minutes) strip down (1 minute) and spend 5 minutes in the sauna (5 minutes). That’s it? Sitting in a sweat box? The hardest part of the challenge was Matt trying to hide the fact he was super happy to have a half naked beautiful blonde sitting next to him. If you review the tape he had his hands strategically placed. But they got through it, so let’s get back to the Roadblock.

Once the teams actually got into the headquarters they would need to get a candelabra, each one had a number on it that corresponded to a room in the building. They would then need to find that room where they would be given a scroll that appears to be blank. The secret is that you need to hold the scroll over the heat of the candle and the message would be revealed. The participants of the Roadblock were:
Cheyne
Sam
Ericka
Flight Time
Matt

Flight Time was the first to find his room and get his scroll, but he had no idea how to get the message. Apparently there was a red crayon or piece of wax so Flight Time took that and scribbled it over the scroll, which did absolutely nothing. In succession Cheyne, Ericka & Sam find their rooms too, but can’t find the clue on the scroll. Cheyne & Ericka were the first to find the clue on the scroll, but they did it without using the flame. Basically the invisible ink was applied to the paper with a paint brush, so the dried liquid was able to catch the light, so you could see it but not as clearly as if they used the fire. The clue read Pikk Hermann Tower Garden, which is the next destination.

Once Matt arrived Sam & Flight Time found their clues. Matt looked like a fool on this challenge. He was looking for a candelabra, but he went around looking for Candle Abra. I don’t know if he thought this was a person, an object or some sort of magical creature, but he went around looking for Candle Abra with no success. Finally it hit him that the clue was in English so he picked up the candle holder. Matt was actually the only one that used the flame to read the message, but he only got part of it, he missed “Garden”, this would turn out to be very important.

All the teams found the garden thanks to locals giving them directions, the Globetrotters on the other hand simply followed Sam & Dan. Bad blood was brewing between these teams. The clue there told the teams that they would be doing the Detour, but each team would need to take a taxi there. This led to a whole thing. Meghan & Cheyne jumped into a cab, but there was some dispute over who saw it first. Meghan, Cheyne & Brian all said Meghan & Cheyne saw it first, Ericka said Brian saw it first and she would not stop harping on him over giving their cab away. So Brian asked M & C’s driver to call a cab for him, But Meghan told him not to once they drove off. But Brian & Ericka found a cab with no problem. Then the tension began.

Sam & Dan came across a cab, but there were people in it. They begged them for the cab, but that wasn’t happening. They asked the driver to call a cab for them, that’s when the Globetrotters showed up and behind the cab they were begging for another cab showed up and the Globetrotters sprinted for it, they got their first & claimed it. Sam & Dan said it was their cab, that was the one the driver called for, Flight Time & Big Easy disagreed. But they all just decided to share the cab. Now if you go by the show, Sam & Dan were full of $h!t. There was no way a cab would have shown up that quickly. But this is an edited show so who knows how much time went by.

Now for the Detour:
Serve- Play volley ball in deep, deep mud against a local team and score 5 points. Teams could either wear bathing suits provided or strip down to their underwear.
Sling- Shoot vegetables at a moose target using a slingshot. Hitting the target would cause a table full of cabbage would collapse along with their clue
Cheyne & Meghan, Sam & Dan, Flight Time & Big Easy and Brian & Ericka chose Serve.

Cheyne & Meghan were the first to arrive and they flew through it, scoring the 5 points pretty quickly. Sam & Dan, The Globetrotters and Brian & Ericka all arrived at the same time and couldn’t find any path markers on the clearly marked path. They did manage to find there way to the Detour sites, but since there were only 2 volley ball “courts” so Brian & Ericka, coming in third had to do Sling. This is where things get a little Cinemaxy. Sam & Dan just thought the local volley ball players were hot as hell and it became quite evident how hot they thought they were. Sam & Dan were just in their underwear and “for some reason” CBS decided to blur their crotches. Hmm, I wonder why?

The Brothers & the Trotters were neck & neck (barely) scoring points but the basketball players finished first, but they went in the wrong direction, away from the final Pit Stop (which Meghan & Cheyne had already reached first). Sam & Dan finish next but go in the right direction and Flight Time & Big Easy figure out their wrong turn and poor on the speed and catch up to the brothers. It’s here that a mishap takes place. There was some dispute once they got to the mat, but to me it looked like Flight Time was trying to pass Dan and there was some tangling of arms & legs and Flight Time went down. I don’t really know why there was such a rush to come in second, when the teams would only have been seconds apart. Sam & Dan felt that they did nothing wrong. The Globetrotters (mostly Big Easy) thought the brothers were throwing elbows so that meant playing a physical game was OK at this point.

Brian hits the moose target and gets the clue before Gary & Matt even got there so father & son are going home this week. You see it took them so long to get to the Detour because once they reached the Pikk Hermann Tower, they did not go to the Garden, they kept trying to find a way to get into the tower and climb it. This cost them aluable time because they missed the cluebox in said garden. It’s kind of sad. Even though they’ve made some boneheaded moves I liked them. Liked them a lot more than I liked Ericka.

I leave you with this my half naked hot blondes, does the Amazing Race seem a little light this season? It seems like less & less actually happens. It’s like the challenges are a little bush league this season too. I’d lie to see a little more difficulty in these challenges. Something that will make people cry and destroy their spirits. Is that too much to ask?

Great recap, Maxx!!

It's so strange that FlightTime and BigEasy and Sam and Dan seem to think they're the biggest competition... especially since Meaghan Cheyne have proven they are probably the best. Eh, I hope it bites both teams in the ass.

Great recap. And I do find it pretty funny that neither of them are taking Meghan and Cheyene as "real" competition.
