Survivor Palau Contestant Jennifer Lyon Loses Battle with Cancer ![]() CBS has announced that Jennifer Lyon, fourth place finisher of Survivor Palau passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged battle with cancer. Jennifer was 37 and died at her home in Oregon. Lyon was diagnosed with Stage Three Breast Cancer shortly after filming Survivor Palau in 2005. She underwent a modified, radical bilateral mastectomy that summer, removing both breasts and 29 lymph nodes. She also went through chemotheraphy and had fought the cancer into remission. The cancer returned in her bones and since that time she had been in an ongoing battle against it. Fellow Survivor contestants have remarked at the great legacy that she has left behind, noting that her positive attitude kept her in this fight for so long. Throughout her battle she was very active in the breast cancer awareness and research fundraisers and events. In the most recent reveal of the All-Stars cast, many returning players have noted that the previous contestant they respected the most was Jenn Lyon. During her time on Survivor, she was shown to loyal and charming. With this sad news comes the relevation that the Survivor family, that has grown to over 300 contestants over the past 10 years, has lost it's first member. Being a huge fan of the show myself, I am deeply saddened by this news, as she came across the screen as a great person. To know of her prolonged battle and the hard work that she devoted to cancer awareness and research outside of her Survivor fame only makes it that more tragic to hear of her passing. I am saddened by this news. We should all support our charities, to give hope and support for the families and friends as well as prayer for these people stricken with this serious disease.
