Want To Know Who Returns To Survivor South Pacific? Here‘s A Hint, One‘s A Player & One‘s A Slayer

Want To Know Who Returns To Survivor South Pacific? Here‘s A Hint, One‘s A Player & One‘s A Slayer

Greetings my loyal minions, Maxx Fisher here

I am not one to write about spoilers. Normally I don’t even like them. Add to that this is a spoiler about bringing back former contestants and it gets even stranger. When I found out that Boston Rob & Russell were coming back to Survivor last year I was not happy to say the least. But then something happened. I appreciated the fact that Boston Rob was on the show because he actually played the game when no one else did. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve hated Rob since the second I saw him on his first season and don’t get me going on Russell, but he made this past Survivor. But now that I have found out who is going to be on the new season of Survivor, which started filming on May 30th in Samoa, I have mixed feelings. Well, enough stalling lets take a look at who we have here.

OZZY LUSTH

BENJAMIN “COACH” WADE

That’s right, the man-fish Ozzy will be returning along with the Dragon Slayer Coach. I never really had a problem with Ozzy, he was an OK guy, a great competitor, but I never saw him as a very good strategic player. I always thought that Coach was a mess, but he kind of grew on me on Heroes vs. Villains. There you have it. Those are the returning contestants. You don’t need any proof. My word is enough. Right? No? OK. First let’s look at why they appear to be on the show.

If you have Ozzy’s phone number, which I don’t, but someone else does, his voicemail says that he will be gone for a month. He’s also taken a leave if absence from his job as a waiter in Venice. So sure, he might be taking an extended vacation from work, people do that all the time. But why would he be away from his phone that long? From what I’ve been told, people use things called cell phones all the time and being away from one for a day is almost impossible for people, let alone a month. I hope to some day have enough friends to justify having a cell phone, until then land line.

Coach’s clues seem a little more concrete to me. If you have watched his previous 2 seasons, then you have to know that Coach loves the spotlight more than Dr. Zaius loves bananas. And yet, he is going to miss some high profile events in the coming weeks. He is the conductor of the Susanville Symphony. June 10th is there closing show, the biggest show of the season and he is not conducting. There is a guest conductor that night. Also, did you know that Coach is in a movie? I swear to God I am not making that up. It has it’s world premiere 1 week later on June 17th and there is no mention of him attending that event either. There is no way that someone could expect him not to appear unless he was involved in a different, bigger famewhore event. I’m referring to Survivor in case you weren’t following.

Now let us discuss why they might need some redeeming.

Ozzy, without a doubt was a competition monster. Like him or not that is a fact. He excelled at anything involving water and was not too shabby on the other challenges. On his last go around he went home because he was cocky & stupid. Not only did he not use his hidden immunity idol to save himself, he didn’t even bring it to tribal council. That was stone cold moronitude and he has a lot to make up for.

I think with Coach, he just wants to be viewed as a good guy. The last time he was on he was labeled a villain and I think he did not like it. I believe that he would do anything to change the perception that people have of him. I don’t see him changing who his is, because hey, when you’re Ben Wade, why do you need to change. I think he wants to “seduce” the viewers into liking him. Plus he gets to be on TV again so win/win for him.

With Boston Rob & Russell, the producers had a rivalry between the 2 returning contestants, but what is the connection here between Ozzy & Coach? It might be a stretch, but I think I can sum it up in one word: PARVATI.

I’ll start with Coach first. On Heroes vs. Villains Parvati managed to gain control of the villain tribe even though she was in a weaker alliance initially and she is the reason that Coach was voted out. Well maybe it was Coach’s own fault because he couldn’t stop talking about getting rid of Parvati.

Ozzy hates Parvati. They became friends after Cook Islands and she blindsided him in Fans Vs Favorites. Sure he said at the reunion that they had made up but that is a lot of crap. He hates her. They never speak and have not become friends again. Plus he was going to appear on Heroes vs. Villains but was pulled because he did nothing to hide his distaste for her and, the rumor is, a Parvati loving producer pulled him to protect her. I know that’s a rumor, but I completely buy it.

These 2 are not being set up as rivals the way Boston Rob & Russell were, so could it be that the producers are hoping that they can both make it to the merge & work together? But can either of them make it to the merge? The only way I can see Coach making it is for someone to pull him into an alliance and use him much the same way that Rob used Phillip. Ozzy is a likeable guy that is good at challenges but has Rob ruined Ozzy’s chances? With Rob completely dominating the season will Ozzy’s tribe see him as a gigantic threat? Will it come down to him having to survive week after week at Redemption Island or whatever they call it this time around?

I leave you with this, my spoiler hungry dragons, is there any chance that the contestants of Survivor South Pacific will be as dumb as the contestants on Redemption Island were? Yeah sure, keep Ozzy & Coach around to help with the shelter or show you how to make fire, but then get them the hell out of there. Knowledge is power and having played the game 2 times before is a lot of power out there and if they don’t see these 2 as threat then they are idiots. But who knows, we may be seeing 2 of these players next year.

Those two will be interesting to see on the show again. I'm not hating it.

Nice scoop Maxx!

Who and who?

They have to put in people that have name recognition with casual Survivor fans. Anyone who has watched the show over the past few years knows who Coach is. Ozzy goes a bit farther back, but he has a couple of appearances on the show, so most fans know him.

The gods have blessed me - only putting Ozzy or Bobby Jon back on could make this redemption island twist a good thing - !!!

Coach is a clown, but his antics are far more entertaining than say Philip. So meh, I'll take it.

As far as any connection There isn't anything obvious, except for the Parvati thing!

Zapatepe, while I agree that they wouldn't be bad choices, I can see why they weren't chosen... they aren't the 'larger than life' personalities of Rob/Russell/Coach and they didn't dominate in challenges like Ozzy. All of these people are people that a regular viewer (not an obsessed superfan like myself) would recognize.

Yeah, I have no problem with Marty or Brenda. They just weren't legends of the game like Ozzy and Coach are. If you ask a fan of the show if they like Ozzy or Coach, they can give you an immediate response. If you ask them if they like Marty or Brenda, I believe they'd have to be reminded who they are.

If it was a full all star season I could see bringing either of them back because relative to their own seasons they were memorable. But if you are only bringing back two players for a shot at redemption, I believe you have to choose more universally recognizable players. Ozzy and Coach have spanned multiple seasons and been among the most popular/controversial players ever to play the game.

That's my problem with this whole thing. Why give the real legends another shot? Pre-merge-boots who had some great potential and dumbers like Erik (Micronesia) have much more reason to redeem themselves. I don't like the fact that people get a third shot - we've seen them, we all know them, some most likely got tired of them.

And Maxx, you're awesome for getting all the facts together

After Rob won this season so dominantly, I expect Ozzy *and* Coach to go home before the merge. If they don't do that, then I would love to know where they are able to find cast members as gullible and naive as they found this past season.

Isn't it possible that they've recorded this season before last season was aired? So they won't know that Rob won?

Blah. So expected. I don't like either of them in particular. I did like Ozzy his first season but not enough to bring him back again.
Oh well. I hope they're both gone pre-merge.
