Bula Funspot #11

I got mad hits like I was Rod Carew...

Scarface indeed!

Alex and Mookie vow to go out like Scarface. I never actually saw the movie. So I had to go to IMDB and get a plot summary, to examine for myself the similarities in the sagas of Tony Montana and Alex whathisname. (thanks, summary writer Titan45, wherever you are!)
So, it seems that Scarface follows gangster Tony Montana (Alex Whatshisname) and his close friend Manny Ray (Mookie Lee) from their trip on the Cuban Boat Lift for refugees to their arrival in Miami( their trip from Ravu to BulaBula). After killing a powerful Cuban figure, (voting off Lisi) Montana (Alex)and company gain the ability to leave their refugee camps and roam around the U.S (sit around without having to listen to anyone snort laughing). After unsuccessfully trying to make it legitimately in the country, (create a viable alliance) Montana and Ray (Alex and Mookie) resort to selling cocaine to dealers around the world (to going through YauMan's personal effects) . Tony's (Alex's) rise is quick, but as he becomes more powerful (He doesn't get that powerful), his enemies and his own paranoia (his complete ineffectualness) begin to plague his empire .
In the end, I understand Montana shoots a bunch of his enemies and dies in a hail of bullets. Alex makes some peevish remarks and makes himself look like a jerk for going through Yau's things before voting off his buddy to save himself. So, not quite the same. But there's always next week! Maybe the reward will be an assault rifle. Win that and you've got yourself set up!

Snake or Rat?
Ever since Sue Hawk's immortal, bitter, bonkers, mind losing speech from Season 1's final tribal council, there's been a lot of comparing Survivors to snakes and rats. Evidently, Dreamz's homelessness did not prevent him from becoming familiar with this, as he mentions that the rats will be seperated from the snakes at tribal council. But really, is it better to line up with the snakes or the rats? Let's check this out.

Hmmm...lets see...rats... meticulous, intelligent, charismatic, charming, ambitious, practical, industrious, eloquent ...also controlling, resentful, manipulative, cruel, vengeful, stubborn, power-hungry, critical. Snakes, it says here are altruistic, honorable, philosophical, discreet, intuitive, diplomatic. On the negative side, they're judgemental, clingy, imperious, prideful, picky, mendacious, a sore loser. Hmpf. Good and bad about each.imagine that. Alright then. Since value judgements are difficult, lets just seperate the snakes from the rats.

Earl, I say, is a snake.
YauMan is a rat.

Dreamz, rat.
Mookie...I don't know...some kind of rat-snake.

Cassandra, rat.
Boo...I don't really think hes either. Probably a goat or something.

This week The Bonys are offering a unique sort of award. Its the double sided Bony, given to two recipients for the same event.

Alex and Mookie get the dirty, nasty side of the Bony for Worst Act of Blackmail for failing to get a stir out of their tribemates with the news that YauMan had the Immunity Idol. YauMan, on the other hand gets the shiny, happy side of the Bony for Spin of the Night, for effectively playing the victim. Not that he wasnt. But he does have the idol. Anyway, congrats Alex, Mookie and Yau!

With that, I seem to be fresh out of nonsense for you. Oh well...more next week. Bula!
