Episode 8 “Double Agent“

Greetings my loyal minions, Maxx Fisher here

I have a confession to make. I have absolutely nothing invested in this season. Usually I enjoy the show and have some favorites and some I hate, but not with this season. Well that’s not quite true. I still hate some of them, quite a few of them actually. But I really don’t have any favorites this season. I don’t know if it’s because I have the spoilers or if it’s because we have uninteresting castaways this season. I’m only interested in good episodes and this is going to be a good episode.

So Ozzy was sent to Redemption Island to take out the juggernaut that is Christine. Christine has basically been playing by herself since week 2, wait, that didn’t sound right. Christine has basically been alone since week 2 and all she has to do to come back into the game is beat Ozzy because the tribes are merging and the winner is returning from Redemption Island. And this is where I feel sorry for Christine, because Ozzy does indeed beat her and she goes home. Ozzy puts on a show at RI yelling at Cochran. Will they buy it?

Something happens upon Ozzy’s return that I’m sure some of you never expected to take place…Cochran gives Ozzy back the Hidden Immunity Idol. I’m surprised too. I’m not a lawyer or a law student, but I’m pretty sure that Cochran could have kept the idol with no repercussions from production or Brandon’s God. So Ozzy’s got 2 immunities now. Oh, did I not mention that Ozzy wins the first individual immunity? How could I have not brought that up earlier? My fault.

Now I don’t want to disparage Ozzy’s acting ability, but Upolu doesn’t really buy him being on the outs with his tribe or being Idoled by Cochran (looks like I got that part wrong last week). Now it might be because he’s not a good actor, but I think it probably has more to do with the fact that Cochran sells out his tribe and aligns with Upolu. Yes, some of you saw that coming, but if you are on Savaii then you did not see it coming.

Let’s examine what led Johnny Cochran down the path of duplicity. The plan is to have a 6 vs. 6 tie. Ozzy has immunity and he’s either going to give the Hidden Immunity Idol to Whitney or he is just going to use it on her. They are going to stick to their guns on the tie and force everyone to pick rocks. The odds, they feel, will be in their favor with Ozzy & Whitney having immunity. Cochran does not like these odds. He seems to be playing a series of 3 day games, playing from one immunity to the next. I don’t know if it was Johnny jumping sides on his own or if Coach offered him a sweet deal, but he is no longer a member of Savaii. The episode ends with a vote of 5 to 7, but who goes to Redemption Island?

I guess when you can‘t vote out Ozzy you vote out the next best competitor on the other side. So now Savaii has no Hidden Immunity idol and it is now 4 vs. 6 plus a Cochran. You don‘t have to be a mathemagician to see how that is going to work out for Ozzy, Dawn, Whitney & Jim

I leave you with this my razor filled taffy apples, Monday is Halloween and my 13th wedding anniversary. So like a lot of people that day the members of Savaii are both tricked & screwed. Like I said earlier, I’m not invested in any players, I’m invested in good TV and the next episode looks like it’s going to be good TV. That is if I haven’t flipped.

I'm confused if Cochran switched sides why would he give back the hidden immunity idol LOL. Also, I guess it was stupid sending Ozzy because if they sent Cochran he would be out, Christine hates her old tribe and it would have been better for Savaii. This season has just been very confusing yet interesting to watch. I think Coach will win this season...I also hope these prayer circles end, I'm tired of them.

What I don't understand is why Ozzy had the brains & guts to be sent to RI where he did beat Christine & did return in the game, but no master plan to foil a 6-6 tie. Take a chance with the Purple rock? Really?! That's all they could come up with?

They deserve to be pagonged at this point. Coach & Brandon can keep praying all they want, but it's Savaii's own fault they don't gain an upper hand at merge. I can only hope that they at least tried to get someone "in" with Upolo to gather intel & "fake" a switch, or tried very hard to get someone from Upolo to switch, before they decide to just take their chances with the rocks. Do they even definitely know it will be a rock tie breaker?!

Thanks for the spoilers Maxx. I'm not thrilled about the potential Savaii destruction since I hate Upolu but I'm not holding you accountable. No wonder Whitney keeps saying disparaging things about Cochran.

Not surprised that Cochran flipped but am that Ozzy gives the idol to Whitney. He's going to need it as soon as he looses a challenge. He'd be hard to beat in the end with his move to send him to Redemption.

I wondered why they wouldn't just wait for Christine to come back in the game but I guess they didn't figure out that Cochran would switch. Can't think he's going to last long with the Upolu tribe but he's just in survivor mode week to week without considering long term.

There have been some questions as to what actually goes on at Tribal Council this week. I guess I was a little ambiguous. Part of me wants to clarify what happens. Another part of me feels like this is going to lead to 1000 questions every week expecting me to add on to my articles. I guess I’m a glutton for punishment (and pizza) because here comes some clarification.

Savaii’s plan was to make sure that Whitney was targeted. I have no idea how you get a tribe to vote out someone that is almost not there when it comes to challenges, but then again I am not a master strategist. That is the best case scenario since they’ll use the Hidden Immunity Idol to save her and all of their votes for Albert would send him home. The worst case is that Upolu does not target Whitney and they tie. Savaii is willing to go to the rocks. Well, almost all of Savaii is willing.

So I already told you that Cochran flips and Savaii’s plan fails. There is 1 vote, it is not a tie and Keith goes home. The option of choosing the rocks never happens, it is just something most of Savaii is willing to take a chance on. So 1 vote that sends Keith home.

As for Cochran’s reasons for flipping, that’s hard to tell. I am neither a mind reader nor an editor on the show so it’s hard to say what we will see. My theory, I repeat, my THEORY is that John wants to be in control, both of himself and the game. He certainly puts his mark on the game in this episode, but the idea of him being in control of anything, seems fleeting to me.

I leave you with this, my invisible cowboys, as much fun as episode 8 sounds like it’s going to be, I can only imagine what the first half of episode 9 is be like. I literally cannot wait. If only I knew what was going to happen. Oh wait…

I hate Upolu... someone should have warned Cochran how much I hate Upolu before he made this decision. I'm sure leaving Survivor carrying the burden of my unrelenting spite will weigh on him heavily.

Someone named 'Rick' appears to have joined the game at tribal council in Episode 8 so it will be interesting to see what he's like. I'm sure he'll be a fascinating character.
