Big Brother 8 – Episode 7 The Lies that Bind Last time on Big Brother 8….. Daniele, who had been put up for nomination with her ever-less-estranged Dad, Dick (now known as “ED” or “Evel”) won the golden power of veto and used it to take herself off the chopping block. In her place, Jen put up Joe. Hammock Time! With the nominations now set for Thursdays live eviction vote, the strategy kicks into overdrive. Dick has to secure his support and Joe, who knew this was coming, has only a few days to try to get the five votes required to force a tie and would require Jen to break it (he’s assuming Jen would vote to keep him). Joe, being the Big Brother fan that he is, knows that this is go time and starts the campaign! Meanwhile, Eric receives his America’s Player assignment – to vote to evict Joe. Eric flashes his unnaturally large smile at the camera and informs us, the American public, that this will be a slam dunk. Joe’s chances are looking worse by the minute. Now, it’s odd to me that the hammock is the place of so much strategy talk and not always the nicest of confrontation. Usually it is two or three people all snuggled up close to each other with pillows and blankets making very serious declarations of faith or rejecting game-changing strategies. This week, we are witness to two such conversation that while, from afar, might look like love birds canoodling, are actually very interesting and heated exchanges. The first is between Dick and Kail. Dick tells Kail that he knows all about the Ms. Robinson alliance, or that at least he knows that Kail and Mike are allied as they talk game like every twenty minutes. *Cut to Kail and Mike talking strategy and being interrupted by Dick in the kitchen.* He tells her that he knows what her plan is and that she has made herself vulnerable by being in an alliance with Mike. Kail responds that she will be voting to evict Joe and if that changes, she will let Dick know. In other Hammock happenings, Joe and Dustin are having a chat. Joe, realizing his time is short, pulls out all the stops in pleading with Dustin to vote for him to stay. He admits that he lied, manipulated and hurt Dustin, but that this (yes, this, right now when he is about to be evicted) is the time he has decided to fly straight with Dustin and honestly hopes Dustin can help him out. Dustin takes it all in and looks like maybe he’s considering Joe’s plea. But then, he opens his mouth and says, very strongly, something to the effect that Joe has put him through hell and can’t be trusted and the he (Dustin) will NOT be voting to keep him in the house. We hear echoes of Dustin’s sentiments in an early diary room session with Jessica who says that while Joe is her bed mate she knows that Joe will sacrifice anyone, even her, to win this game. Yeah, doesn’t look good for Joe. Daddy! After Kail’s cozy chat with Dick, she realizes that Dick has her number and he needs to leave ASAP. Kail goes to talk to Mike about it who receives this new game plan with tepid enthusiasm, at best. I think Mike is starting to realize just exactly what he got himself into by aligning so early with someone he hardly knew (i.e., someone he can hardly trust). To this end, Kail decides to try to take a shot at convincing Daniele to vote out her Dad. She explains to Daniele that Dick’s presence makes it a harder game for her and, game-wise, it would be best to vote Dick out. Daniele doesn’t take this too well and, in the diary room, tells us that Kail is just paranoid and definitely barking up the wrong tree by asking her to vote Dick out. ![]() Watch your back Dad! Daniele takes the further step of telling Dick what Kail just tried to do and says that Kail is campaigning to “turn the whole house against him.” Dick is ready for a fight and starts moving to go call Kail out, but Daniele talks him down as she doesn’t want Kail to know that Daniele told Dick about Kail’s plans. However, the next day at breakfast in the kitchen, Dick can’t help himself. Sipping his morning coffee he asks Kail, “so what did everyone think when you were trying to get them to vote me out?” Kail initially denies the campaigning but Dick presses on calling her a liar and very untrustworthy. (Early on in the conversation Daniele walks through the kitchen but doesn’t stop to see how it will all play out.) Dick says that Kail told him that she would tell him if she was going to change her vote, yet Kail had yet to say anything to Dick. Kail responds that she has not officially changed her vote but this sounds pretty fishy and Dick continues to call her out. Now, as uncomfortable as this exchange is for Kail, these two are not alone. Jameka, Mike and two others are also present and, wow, do they look awkward or what!?! No one will come to Kail’s aid for fear of earning the wrath of Dick, but no one will support Dick’s claims either. They just go about munching their food and looking for the quickest escape route. In the face of Dick’s attack Kail is just saying “fine” or “sounds like you are worried” while putting away dishes. Dick says that he’s not worried but just wanted to expose Kail for who she really is and pronounces their earlier agreement (which, I think was to keep each other safe for a bit?) dead in the water and storms out. After this exchange, Kail finds her ability to speak full sentences again and notices that there are five people in the kitchen and that is all it would take to get Dick out. Everyone sort of agrees except Jameka who, when pressed, says that she is still on the fence and won’t commit. Good job Jameka! I would have totally succumbed to Kail’s pressure and voted for Dick right there on the spot! ![]() Diary Room – Janus Musings Julie then takes the opportunity to treat us to the diary room musings of the houseguest’s as they decide who to vote for. As usual, they tell us NOTHING. You know…well, Joe could go because he’s so dramatic, but Dick could go because he farts and burps a lot. Basically everyone agrees that Joe is the source of a lot of fun but also the source of a lot of controversy. Dick, on the other hand is both gross but also a straight shooter. Zach, as usual thinks mostly about himself and says that Joe needs to go for his game. What game…I don’t know…haven’t seen a lot out of Zach yet (at least on the show). Yadda Yadda Yadda. Just get to the votes. But First! It wouldn’t be a Thursday night show without an interview with someone from one of the houseguest’s real life. This week Nate is the back story subject. Nate being the former best friend of Dustin who slept with Joe at the end of Dustin and Joe’s relationship and memorialized in the heated bedroom exchange between Joe and Dustin in the first days of the house. Maybe Nate gave Joe gonorrhea??? Anyway….Nate comes down pretty firmly on Dustin’s side explaining that Joe has done a lot to hurt Dustin and slander his name. Nate thinks the other houseguests realize that Joe is out for Joe and not to trust him. (Oh, and side note, Nate never loved Joe even though Joe claimed to love Nate…oooh…so sordid!!!) Thursday Night Housework Julie takes the opportunity now to chat with the houseguests. She questions Mike and Nick about their strong man personas (Mangus and Kragus) and their respective fictional wives. Julie asks Nick if Kragus’ wife is Daniele which makes Nick clearly uncomfortable and he declines to answer. Amber is asked about her crying which makes her just dissolve in a ball of weeping sobs! Just kidding. She says that she is a sensitive person and she’s always been a crier. Jen is asked about her infamous unitard which she is wearing for the night’s show. Jessica is questioned about Jen’s ability to wear the said unitard and if she would do anything different. Seriously, Julie, could you find anything more inane to question the houseguest’s about????![]() The infamous unitard – and Kail Next, Jen is questioned in the HoH room. Miraculously, Jen is able to carry on a cogent conversation this week with Julie. Julie asks Jen what the real reason behind nominating Daniele was – because of Daniele’s negative attitude or because of Nick’s Daniele obsession? Jen says that it was because of Daniele’s negativity but also says that Daniele has been much more positive this week. Jen also says that Dick and Jen are pretty similar people deep down and she’s going to let bygones be bygones. Finally, Julie questions Jen about her picture on the picture wall she freaked out about and Jen once again goes into spasms about how horrendous it is. Whatever. Back in the living room, Dick and Joe give their final goodbye speeches. Joe asks everyone to do what they promised and Dick just says that he enjoyed getting to know everyone and looks forward to getting to know them better. Someone has Gotta Go! The live eviction voting starts! Dustin and Daniele are the first two in and, totally unsurprisingly, vote to evict Joe. Next in is Eric who, as America’s Player doesn’t actually vote but talks about the weather with Julie. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Eric’s dilemma as America’s Player that he has to “perform” these tasks? I mean, later on down the road America might want him to vote for someone that he doesn’t want to vote for and might vote the other way despite America’s directive. Can he vote for someone else or is his vote set in stone once America votes? Hmmm….guess I don’t get it. ![]() Amber is up next and votes to evict Joe. Kail walks in and votes to evict Dick. Uh oh, did this mean the Mrs. Robinson alliance decided to go for the Dick after all? Well, no, Jameka, Jessica, Nick, Zach and Mike all vote to evict Joe as well. Not sure if Kail’s vote was a pity vote or if she will be PISSED once she finds out the vote tally, but thems the breaks. Joe Schmo Julie announces that by a vote of 9-1 Joe has been evicted from the Big Brother house. Joe takes it in stride, says that it was nice to meet everyone and walks out to meet Julie. On the couch, Julie asks how it feels, as an avid Big Brother fan, to be sitting outside while his ex, Dustin, is still inside. Let me guess Julie…it feels like crap! Joe pretty much says so and also comments that once Dustin walked down those stairs his whole game changed because he was always dealing with the strategy side of things as well as the emotional side of things. Julie also asks him about being a “pot-stirrer” (and the not the stew making kind). Joe agrees that him telling Nick about Jen’s kiss claim and other incidents probably hurt him but that he was just being himself. Finally, Julie asks him if he remembers when someone tried to crawl into his bed the other night and reveals the America’s Player twist to Joe (and shows him tape!). Joe is relieved as he thought it was just a really vivid dream but he’s glad to know he wasn’t hallucinating and thanks America for choosing him. Joe is then shown his goodbye messages. Zach tells him that Joe rubbed him wrong from the beginning and that for his game, Joe had to leave. Jessica leaves a sweet goodbye message and Dustin tells Joe that Joe is responsible for the events that led to his eviction and that he hopes Joe can find the guy he was when Dustin first fell in love with him. Awww…. ![]() HoH – Unitard Style Back to the backyard where the HoH competition is about to begin. The challenge is entitled “Getting Schooled” and will involve a series of true/false questions based on their time in the Big Brother house and related to subject areas. All of them make some sense except for the “P.E.” question which all have to do with Jen’s winning of the red unitard. Huh? In fact, when just Dick, Daniele and Mike are left in the competition they go to a tie-breaker question which is “how many hours has Jen been wearing the unitard.” Someone in Big Brother mission control is seriously obsessed with this unitard! The answer turns out to be 125 hours which makes Dick, with the answer of 120 the closest and the winner of the HoH!!! ![]() Even my tats like being HoH! So that’s it folks. Joe got evicted because he was an obvious manipulator and Dick seems to have Kail in his sights due to her dishonesty. What will happen on Sunday’s show when Dick decides who to nominate?
