inline image Amanda Kimmel has lived all over the state of Montana. She most recently worked as a hiking tour guide and continues to hone her skills as an artist while learning about the fashion industry. She began modeling in Chicago at the age of 16 where she lived on her own for one year. She previously worked as a make-up artist, retail sales representative and waitress. Her goal is to develop a business within the fashion industry.

Kimmel has competed in many beauty pageants and was crowned Miss Montana USA in 2005 and placed in the Top 8 for Miss Earth in 2006. She's been on the cover of Montana Living Magazine and Pageantry Magazine. Kimmel has been to China twice before to compete in the Miss Kite of the World Pageant in Weifang. Kimmel just moved from Kalispell, Montana to Los Angeles and is living with her sister, Katrina. Her family has one dog, Sassy, two cats, Cleo and Lynus, and one horse, Frisco. Her birth date is August 3, 1984.

AMANDA SAYS: ''I know things about [fellow Favorite and China castmate] James he doesn't want people to know. And he knows stuff about me. We could be worst enemies, or we can become allies.''

JEFF PROBST SAYS: ''Amanda knows how to play Survivor. She knows how to build an alliance, how long to keep it, when to get rid of it. She's very good at looking at odds, she's very good at assessing if [she's] better off against this person, or with this person. And you need that. Survivor only thrives when you have people who will continue to turn and switch and make moves. Amanda's in great shape, she does well in the challenges, she's beautiful, and she knows how to play.''

I really think it's great that Amanda had enough time between filming seasons to become a fashion designer

Well, she was inspired to design a bikini bottom that doesn't ride up.

“I Knew I Had to Have a Better Ending to My Game” – An Interview with Survivor: Micronesia’s Runner-Up, Amanda
Quote:
by David Bloomberg -- 05/12/2008

Coming into Sunday night, did Amanda have any idea where the vote was headed? Looking back, would she have had a better chance against Cirie? What would she like to be able to do over again? Where is her relationship with Ozzy headed? And what else is in her future? Amanda answers all these questions and more right here in this exclusive interview with RealityNewsOnline!

I don’t know if it was that Amanda was extremely tired (Parvati said on The Early Show that she hadn’t slept yet, so it’s likely Amanda hadn’t either) or she is just beaten down at this point after two long stints on Survivor coming so close but yet so far, but Amanda just seemed rather subdued in this interview. As you’ll see, in several cases she just gave one-word answers. But she could also still laugh a bit and has a lot to look forward to, so read on to find out more.
RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Amanda, and thanks for taking the time to talk to us here at RealityNewsOnline. What was your strategy this time, and how did it differ from last time?
Amanda: My strategy this time was pretty much to stick with Ozzy. I kind of made that strategy towards the beginning. You have to make strategies as you go. I’m good at knowing where I’m standing in the game, I did it the first time and I did it again.

RNO:What did you learn from your time on Survivor: China that you brought with you to Micronesia?
Amanda: Pretty much that I need to work on my social game as well as my final Tribal Council. That’s really what screwed me up in China and I knew I had to have a better ending to my game.
RNO: So do you think you accomplished that?
Amanda: No, ‘cus I lost. (Laughs)
RNO:Do you think it was Parvati’s strategy or social relationships – or a combination of both – that won the game for her?
Amanda: It was a combination of a bunch of things. There were a bunch of girls who didn’t like me on the islands. Natalie and Alexis had it out for me since I met them. [So it was] her social game and there were some people there who didn’t like me.
RNO:Do you look back at any of your jury responses and wish you could have them to do over again?
Amanda: Yeah, definitely. All of it.
RNO: What would you have done differently?
Amanda: I just wanted to plug my case better.
RNO:When I interviewed you after China, you said you were “physically and mentally and emotionally exhausted.” How did you pull yourself back together to so quickly turn around and go through it all again?
Amanda: I have no idea. I just did it. I don’t know. It’s just like when you’re forced to do things, you do it. People are stronger than they think they are. I think 90% of America underestimates themselves.

RNO: When rumors were circulating about who might be returning this season and I heard your name, I said no way, she said she was exhausted.
Amanda: A lot of people didn’t think I could. I set a lot of records and I’m proud of what I did. I just can’t pull it together in the end for some reason.
RNO:Watching the finale, I saw a lot of the same emotional responses from you in this final three that you showed in China, such as getting mad at Cirie for what happened at Tribal Council, just like you did with Todd in the same situation. Did you start to feel the same exhaustion creeping in?
Amanda: Yeah, definitely. Come on! I lived in the jungle for 78 days. It’s not easy. Then when they surprise you with a final two instead of food, you start to lose it, and I was definitely losing it.
RNO: Do you think that affected your jury performance?
Amanda: Yeah.
RNO:Would you have done anything differently along the way if you knew the whole time that it would be a final two instead of a final three?
Amanda: I probably would have prepared myself mentally for it. I just kept telling myself to just get to the final three. It would have been nice to know, but it wouldn’t have changed anything.
RNO:You also told me last time, “It was hard to separate the social experiment part of the game and the strategic part of the game.” Would it be fair to say you faced that problem again this time around?
Amanda: Yep, probably.
RNO: Did your romance with Ozzy ever get in the way of the game?
Amanda: Probably.
RNO: Was there anything specific you’re thinking of?
Amanda: No.

RNO: Why didn't you and James team up with Erik and Jason to take out one of the others when you knew Jason had the real idol?
Amanda: I wanted to stay loyal. By that point, I was like, if I’m going to play this game [of being loyal], I’m going to play this game. I wanted to stay loyal but compete against people I can beat in challenges. I didn’t know what I was going to do yet.
RNO:Looking back, do you think you would have had a better chance against Cirie?
Amanda: No.
RNO: What went into your decision to take Parvati?
Amanda: The fact that we were really close and I had a better chance against her than against Cirie.
RNO:Did you know Alexis and Natalie would be solidly with Parvati going into the final Tribal Council?
Amanda: Yeah.
RNO:Did you have an inkling of the outcome before Sunday night?
Amanda: No.
RNO: Did the Fans ever really stand a chance against the Favorites?
Amanda: No. (Laughs)
RNO: How were you able to bond so easily with the other Favorites, when you didn’t know them outside the game the way they all knew each other?
Amanda: That was hard for me and James, we were brand new and fresh off the boat. James and I had a hard time because we didn’t know anybody. We’re pretty likable and it wasn’t really hard or an issue, we just made our alliances and went from there.
RNO: What was the most eye-opening thing you saw on TV that you didn’t know about while you were there?
Amanda: When all the firls were trying to vote out Erik, I never understood why there was a vote for Parvati. I thought there was going to be a vote for me – I’ve never had a vote that counted [in either season]. I was prepared to get my first vote. I didn’t understand why Parvati got a vote – it was because Erik had this plan that Parvati would give the idol to me. I didn’t get it until I saw it.
RNO: If you could change one decision you made in the game, what would it be?
Amanda: Everything happens for a reason. I don’t think I can answer that.
RNO:Take us through what happened when you captured the shark.
Amanda: We had a four-foot shark in the net, it was alive. It was about five feet down in the water and I was freaking out. I’ve never even seen a shark. I had a little knife with me, I found some way to get the shark on land and kill it. It was one of the coolest moments in the game for me.

RNO: Where do you see your relationship with Ozzy headed?
Amanda: We’re taking things one day at a time. We’re really close and you know. I don’t know.
RNO: There was no proposal on the show!
Amanda: That would be the corniest ever if he did that. I wouldn’t allow him to do that, not on reality TV. It’s been done, it’s old news.
RNO: So instead he made fun of Denise (with his comments about losing his job and scrubbing toilets).
Amanda:Oh yeah, I thought that was funny. She kind of deserved it, I thought her move was ridiculous.
RNO: Do you have anything else you’d like to tell us about your time on Survivor?
Amanda: Just that I have some calendars and posters on my website [indeed she does – and to be honest, they are hot] and I’m in a movie with director Charles Winkler, called The Reef, filming in Hawaii in a couple days.
RNO: That’s pretty cool. Good luck with all of that. Thanks again, Amanda!

Amanda Kimmel discusses 'Micronesia,' losing 'Survivor' twice

Quote:
By Christopher Rocchio, 05/12/2008

Amanda Kimmel admits she's not very good at choosing castaways to take with her to Survivor's final Tribal Council.

Unfortunately she learned that lesson the hard way for the second season in a row, as the Survivor: China third-place finisher was defeated by Parvati Shallow via a 5-3 jury vote margin during last night's Survivor: Micronesia -- Fans vs. Favorites finale broadcast on CBS.

On Monday morning, Amanda talked to Reality TV World about why she decided to take Parvati to the final Tribal Council instead of Cirie Fields; why playing a "loyal game" was something that was important to her; how participating in back-to-back Survivor installments has caused her to have "trust issues;" why the quick turnaround between China and Micronesia mostly put her at a disadvantage; and how her current relationship with Ozzy Lusth might have been a $1 million mistake.

Reality TV World: When I talked to you after December's China finale, you seemed pretty melancholy and a little indifferent about how the season had turned out. Is it safe to say that knowing you'd already managed to get to a Survivor final jury vote a second time was a big part of the reason why?
Amanda: It was kind of because I knew I didn't win China. (laughing)

Reality TV World: What was your reaction to James Clement's final Tribal Council comment that you had the $1 million "in the bag?" Did you spend the last few months thinking he was right or did you consider it the kiss of death?

Amanda: I knew it was very close. It's so hard because all you can do is get yourself to the end and then you really don't know what's going to happen. What sucks about Survivor is that you can work as hard as you want and you can do as much as you want and you can build as many relationships as you think you need and it still might not be enough. You never know.

Reality TV World: Did Survivor host Jeff Probst ever explain what would have happened if there'd been a 4-4 jury vote tie? If so, what was the answer?

Amanda: No, he didn't ever tell us. There was a white envelope. I don't know what was in it, but that was supposed to be the tie-breaker if there was one. But I have no idea. I know as much about it as you do.

Reality TV World: When we talked back in December, you mentioned that you felt you'd "messed up" the final Tribal Council and that's what cost you the $1 million check. Based on what CBS showed last night, it honestly looks that's what happened again this time -- would you agree with that?

Amanda: I have no idea. Honestly, I don't know. Maybe I said the wrong thing with Cirie's question to me [at the final Tribal Council], but it was definitely geared towards Parvati. And all the girls [on the jury] were pro-Parvati. So you do what you have to in the game. I made an observation [about Cirie] and she was obviously upset about it. Cirie had a lot of power, the girls are good at manipulating this game and I'm sure they manipulated.

Reality TV World: Parvati seemed to play a game that was very similar to what Todd Herzog did last season and when we talked in December, you said that you'd left China's final Tribal Council feeling like you hadn't won, so why did you take Parvati this time?

Amanda: Honestly, because I thought I had a better chance against her than Cirie. Maybe I'm horrible at deciding who I take to the finals -- obviously. But I just went with my gut and I decided to take Parvati and I did and I don't know.

Reality TV World: So even when Parvati actually came right out and told you that she didn't think there was any way Cirie would beat you if you took Cirie to the Final 2, that didn't really change your thinking at all?

Amanda: No.I really honestly knew I couldn't beat Cirie. A lot of the girls on the jury hated me -- [Natalie Bolton and Alexis Jones] -- they pretty much tore me down at Tribal. I knew that taking Cirie, she was a shoe-in for a lot of votes just because she played good the whole time and she was good at speaking.

Reality TV World: When you were going through the process, did you recognize the similarities between what you'd gone through with last season's decision to keep Todd over Denise Martin and the decision to keep Parvati over Cirie this season?

Amanda: Yeah, I can see similarities. Although I think Cirie would have been more dangerous in the finals than Denise. (laughing)

Reality TV World: In both seasons, you basically seemed to expect the jury to reward your loyalty and physical competitiveness and were worried about the jury falling for an "I have kids and a family" story. However if you look back at the show's prior seasons, no jury has ever fallen for a "sob story" -- in fact, they've traditionally rewarded "the schemer." Didn't you know that from watching past seasons and did you take that into account as you were approaching the jury?

Amanda: I did, but... I don't know what to say. I just did a lot of things wrong and I really don't know what else to say.

Reality TV World: Like you mentioned earlier, when we talked in December you said you'd left China thinking that you were pretty sure you hadn't won. Given that, can you explain why you used the same jury strategy this time around? Did you think about changing your jury strategy at all?

Amanda: Yeah. I guess I like the game I played. I think I played a loyal game because in life I like to be loyal too and that was important to me. Early in the game, I had to decide if I was going to be loyal or not to Ozzy -- whether I wanted a relationship with him later or if it was just a game and I was going to use him and abuse him to the end. I decided to have a relationship with him, and maybe that was a $1 million mistake. I don't know.

Reality TV World: Are you still happy you made that decision?

Amanda: Definitely.

Reality TV World: Why did you go out of your way to tell the jury you didn't want any sympathy votes and didn't want anything given to you?

Amanda: I'm like a genuinely nice person, and I don't think a nice person can win this game, honestly. Everybody thought when I was crying about voting out Cirie was fake and it wasn't. It was genuine. I'm genuinely a nice person and I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Maybe you just can't have those qualities for this game. I don't know.

Reality TV World: So that genuinely was an emotional decision for you to choose between Parvati and Cirie in the Final 2?

Amanda: Yeah, it was really hard. That's probably the hardest part of the game for me -- the emotional aspect. This is a game, but it ruins people's lives. Your messing with people's heads and real feelings and it's not a bunch of BS. It's a game at the end of the day, but when you're out there it's very real and they're real people in real situations, and I don't like to hurt people's feelings. I don't do that. I'm from Montana! (laughing)

Reality TV World: After winning the Final 4 Immunity Challenge, you said you'd played this season "so different" than China and felt "so much better about it." Can you explain what you meant by that?

Amanda: I made bold moves and I'm proud of the moves I made. I felt really bad about voting James out last time, and it's a game -- but it's not in me to do stuff like that. So at the end I felt better about my game in Micronesia than I did in China, for sure.

Reality TV World: This is the second Survivor edition where you seem to have broken down in the final days and teed off on one of your allies after the Final 4 Tribal Council -- last season it was Todd and this time it was with Cirie. Why do you think that's the case?

Amanda: The whole thing is so fake! You're living a game where you have to hurt people's feelings and manipulate and deceive -- and you're doing it day after day. You develop trust issues and it's hard. It's hard to deal with. I'm a positive person and I never put myself in that kind of atmosphere. To live that for 70 days straight? At the end, I just couldn't take it anymore. Honestly, I was just at my ends.

Reality TV World: Can you explain why you were all so surprised that there wasn't a Final 3? Weren't the facts that the Final 4 Immunity Challenge took place a day early, wasn't a classic endurance challenge, and wasn't proceeded by the usual "Fallen Comrades" march some pretty big hints that there was going to be another Immunity Challenge?

Amanda: You never know what's going to happen. Seriously, Jeff asks questions... He asks you a lot more questions than what is just shown on TV. So he can hide it easily. It's not as noticeable out there as it is as they portray it.

Reality TV World: Last night, there was a confessional were Parvati mentioned that -- although Micronesia taped before China's finale aired in December -- she already knew you'd also made it to the end of the China edition. When did you tell her that? Did you tell anyone else?

Amanda: I told a couple of people, just because it seemed like everyone there made it to the end of their seasons pretty much. At the beginning, me and James kind of felt like outcasts because we didn't know anybody from previous seasons. We kind of needed anything to save face with as many of these people as we could. So me and James said we made it really far. I don't know, it just helped us out because we could tell them anything we wanted really.

Reality TV World: Telling anyone you'd made it to China's Final 3 and might already have won $1 million would seem to be the type of thing that would have painted a huge target on your back. Do you regret that decision?

Amanda: I don't think it hurt me. Honestly, I don't know right now.

Reality TV World: When you decided to play the Hidden Immunity Idol, why did you and Parvati vote Alexis over Natalie?

Amanda: Actually, the truth about that is I really wanted Natalie gone because I knew Alexis wasn't a shoe-in for challenges and stuff. But Parvati made it clear she wanted to vote for Alexis. I even told Parvati to vote for me so I could vote for Natalie. I don't know what was going on but she was very determined to either make it a tie [between Natalie and Alexis] or vote for Alexis.

Reality TV World: Did you ever get a sense that Ozzy might be blindsided before the Tribal Council when it occurred?

Amanda: No, I didn't.

Reality TV World: So did you have a hard time trusting Parvati after that?

Amanda: I had a hard time trusting everyone. That's a hard part about this game, it forces you to deceive and lie. I seriously developed trust issues after this game.

Reality TV World: When we talked to Ozzy and James, they both said they never really considered Cirie to be part of your alliance. Would you agree with that?

Amanda: Yeah, kind of. Cirie was back and forth in the beginning a lot. I would consider her a part of my alliance after everyone was gone.

Reality TV World: Earlier in the competition, was there ever a situation where you guys discussed possibly getting rid of Cirie?

Amanda: No, not really.

Reality TV World: How difficult was it to lose James to injury? Had that not happened, did you have any sort of strategy to keep him around?

Amanda: Oh yeah, definitely. We would have come up with something for sure.

Reality TV World: So was it personally tough to lose him?

Amanda: Of course. He's like my brother. We're really, really close and I love the guy to death. I think he's amazing. It was really hard.

Reality TV World: Once you were cast, were you aware that James would be joining you or did you not find out until you got to Micronesia?

Amanda: I didn't find out until I saw him in the hotel. (laughing) Then I looked across the room and I was trying to get a sense if he was still mad at me from China or if he was okay. He smiled at me like he was happy to see me, so that was definitely a good thing.

Reality TV World: Exactly how quickly did the turn around from China to Micronesia happen?

Amanda: It was three weeks.

Reality TV World: So do you think that was an advantage or disadvantage -- that Micronesia happened so quickly after China?

Amanda: Both. I think it was an advantage because the game was fresh in my head. But it was kind of a disadvantage because maybe getting away from the game, you can think about it longer and think about the mistakes you made so you don't make them again. Honestly, when I got back I didn't really analyze China because I was just completely over it. (laughing) Maybe that was a fault. I don't know.

Reality TV World: What was your reaction when you discovered it wasn't going to be a full All-Stars edition? Were you disappointed or happy?

Amanda: I was happy. I think the game is easier to play with people who haven't played it before. They're easier to manipulate, and it's definitely an advantage knowing what you're doing. So I was glad.

Reality TV World: We already touched upon your relationship with Ozzy. How's it currently going?

Amanda: We're dating and everything's good. I think he's adorable. We're just taking it day by day.

Reality TV World: Okay, so was that a friendship that became an alliance or an alliance that became a friendship and then became romantic?

Amanda: Both. I don't really know how to explain it. It just kind of happened.

Reality TV World: During the reunion show you mentioned that the back-to-back editions have basically made Survivor your "job" for the last year. Now that it's over, what's next?

Amanda: I have a swimsuit poster -- a bunch of them actually -- on my website theamandakimmel.com. I'm actually doing a movie. I found out from Micronesia that I'm a pretty good actress, so I got this film. It's called The Reef by Charles Winkler. It's filming in Hawaii in a couple of days actually.

Because Ethan, Danni and Yul were such jerks. What a sore loser All of the winners were reasonably nice, except arguably Hatch, Brian and Todd.

I am not a fan of the sort of posting that goes on at Sucks (the foul language and cursing at one another), but I have been looking there all season for spoilers and such. Those people are something else - it's hilarious...

If you have time - this is the funniest thing I have ever seen it's called: 'The Many Adventures of Lividmanda' *warning it's not PG-13 in my opinion* - it's so funny though

Exclusive: Interview With Survivor’s Amanda Kimmel!

Quote:
May 15, 2008 09:58:16 by Ryan Haidet

When she arrived on location for Survivor: Micronesia – Fans Vs. Favorites, 23-year-old Amanda Kimmel had just got done battling it out for the full 39 days on Survivor: China and came in third place. By the end of her second attempt, Amanda made it the full 39 days yet again, which set a Survivor record.

With her second-place finish in the Micronesia season, Amanda has played Survivor more than any other player in history – a total of 78 days. “In a row,” Amanda said of her completed games. “Like these are 78 days in a row. I feel like I’m a professional Survivor by now, you know. I feel that’s been my life for so long that I’m just so excited that it’s over and I can just move on and do the things I love to do. I just need this to be over.”
This season CBS lined up 10 returning players against 10 ultimate fans of the show. “I thought it was crazy,” Amanda said of the concept. “I knew right off the bat that we (favorites) were definitely going to have an advantage because we’ve played this game. I knew we’d be able to manipulate better than the fans. Your first time on the show, you learn a lot and you learn a lot about yourself. And playing against veterans that have done this before I think is really hard, especially being a fan that has never done this before, (who) never has gone through the element part of it. And we were just stronger, you know, mentally, strategically and physically.”

She made a solid alliance early on with favorites Parvati, Ozzy Lusth and James Clement. At one point, Parvati put her in alliance with some of the women from the fans’ tribe. “I was upset she put me in an alliance because part of my strategy this time, especially after meeting Ozzy, was that I had to make a decision whether I was gonna be loyal to him or not and I decided I was. That was gonna be my game this time. I was exhausted from China and I just wanted to play a very loyal, strategic game and I really thought that I could be loyal and strategic and make it to the end. So for her putting me in another alliance, kind of contradicted what I was trying to do. So, it worked out for her OK. I made it to the end somehow and it just worked out.”

Amanda won the last immunity challenge and solely voted out Cirie Fields, which effectively decided Parvati was the other member of the final two. Parvati ended up winning by two votes. “Parv and myself, we’ve been friends since the beginning of the game and we’re really tight,” Amanda remarks on why she took her to the end instead of Cirie. “She’s my girl and we knew coming here, we’re the final two. One of us is gonna go home with a million dollars, one of us is gonna go home with a hundred thousand – a lot of money either way. We just kind of made peace with it and I’m happy for her. You never know what the jury’s gonna do, it’s a crazy game.”

A crazy game it is. This season sparked some of the biggest blindsides and blunders in the show’s 16-season history. First came Ozzy’s ouster. The guy she had been “dating” on the island (they are still together at the time of this report) was suddenly sent packing, which shocked Amanda. “I pretty much had to change my entire game,” Amanda said. “You know me and Ozzy were making a lot of decisions together (that) when he was gone, I had to make strategic, bold decisions by myself. I pretty much had to fight to the end at that point. So, it was something I was just ready to do – I was ready to fight for this.”

Then came her great strategic game play when she helped the other girls convince Erik Reichenbach to give up his immunity necklace. He did and got voted out. “You know, I honestly didn’t think he was going to buy it. I’m like, ‘Let’s try our best; I’ll say whatever I have to say.’ I didn’t say anything that I didn’t believe. I love Erik to death; I think he’s a sweetheart. I was playing a game and he fell for it. And in the end it was worth it, you know, because I knew I couldn’t beat Erik in the challenges, so you know, it was worth it.”

Which season was tougher for her? “Physically China was much rougher,” she said. “I lost 30 pounds in China. I lost five pounds in Micronesia. But strategically and mentally, this one was much harder just because of all the women wanting to make their moves and just placing yourself in the right position. Strategically it was definitely harder this time.”

Having been surrounded by the game for two full seasons, Amanda said it’s time to move on – but another shot at the competition would be hard for her to turn down. “Two times going to the end and I don’t win. Like, c’mon of course I’d do it again.”
