Big Brother 9: A Moment on the Big Comfy Cowch

With the first HoH already completed, I think it's safe to say that after last night's premiere, we've all seen the competitive nature of this season's hamsters. But who is most likely to come out on top? Well, this is Big Brother 9: A Moment on the Big Comfy Cowch where I, cowchpotaytoe, will be analyzing weekly the strategy of season 9's cast and predicting the moves of the game. I will be writing each prediction BEFORE I look at spoilers (yes, I look at spoilers) so that I can give my best speculation of the upcoming week's events.

So what happened last night? Well, we learned our pairs:

Amanda + Alex
Allison + Ryan
Joshuah + Neil
James + Chelsia
Matt + Natalie
Jacob + Sharon
Jen + Parker
Sheila + Adam

We learned that Alex thinks Amanda is smokin' hot, Ryan sweats like Pumbaa, James is legally insane and lives on his bicycle, Natalie's breasts are the secret 17th houseguest, Matt = tool, Sheila is a crazy hag, and Adam hates his partner already! Very fun.

The HoH competition involved the houseguests, who just learned that they would be sleeping together, sharing HoH/PoV together, and getting evicted together with a total stranger, wrapping their limbs around their new "soulmate" in an effort to win the HoH. After a very competitive first HoH, Jen & Parker claimed the first "Power Couple" HoH. Now, I know we've just met these houseguests but let's be honest, we've been judging them since their bios were released. So let's take a crack at who I think has got it made. The rankings will be ordered as such: highest up is the couple in the best position for the week. Lowest on the list is up for possible nomination or eviction.

Power Ranking:

Parker & Jen
Okay, so obviously, these guys are the Power Couple of the Week. They've won HoH, all while Jen is juggling her relationship with Ryan and keeping it on the down-low. They are immune for the week and have all the power. We've seen many times in the past the first HoH use their power to create alliance, build bridges, and establish deals - therefore, I see these two in a good position for next week as well. That is, of course, as long as Jen can keep quiet about her relationship with Ryan. If not, her already having an "alliance" will get Jen & Parker a quick boot.


Allison & Ryan
With Jen & Parker as the HoH, it is only natural that Ryan will be safe this week as well. Of course, we COULD see Ryan go up if Jen wants to throw everybody off their trail and allow him to be a pawn but this early in the game where she couldn't possibly trust anyone yet, there is a very very low possibility of this. Though, if Parker follows his instincts and insists on Ryan being nominated, we could see the secret of their relationship coming out sooner than later. And if that happens, I don't see Ryan & Allison lasting too long after that.


Joshuah & Neil
These two are competitive and they will most likely fly under the radar. They finished the HoH competition mid-way, therefore they didn't pose themselves as a power couple nor did they pose themselves as weak pick-offs. Therefore, my prediction is that these two will lay low and watch the fireworks together and just smile when they skate through to the end. Early prediction here for the finals.


James & Chelsia
These two proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with last night. James seems likable and also probably has a lot of charisma. I see him doing a lot better schmoozing other teams than Chelsia, but together they could really kick some ass. As long as they don't come off as too competitive, I see them sticking around for a while.


Alex & Amanda
For the time being, these two are my favorite team. Its seems that they will work well together and make good friends with other teams. However, Alex's extreme competitiveness comes off very strong, as it showed last night when he yelled at Amanda for needing to quit during the HoH. If they are seen too early on as being a competitive team, it could be their downfall. I see them winning a PoV or HoH pretty quickly on and hopefully using that power to create bonds with other teams. Otherwise, they may not last as long as I hope they do.


Natalie & Matt
For me, Natalie & Matt are in limbo. They will make friends and stick around (it already seems that Matt is good at making friends and Natalie and Amanda seemed friendly during the first episode) but they might want to use their charisma and charm to win over other houseguests rather than try so hard to win competitions. Matt seems competitive and it will probably dent his ego to not claim every win, but to me, it is his and Natalie's best bet to use their charisma to surround themselves with pawns and pick them off later.


Sheila & Adam
If Sheila and Adam do not find a way to come together and agree to be civil, they are either going to be our first evictees or self-destruct. Neither of them seem physically capable or charismatic in any way. They could be an easy "dont-hate-me" pick-off because of their initial negativity but seeing that Parker and Jen are intelligent, I think they will nominate the pair in case of a veto win but focus on ejecting another couple. Why? Because Adam and Sheila are weak and it would be better to keep them around then get rid of them - we've seen this before with Chicken George, Jen, Cowboy, etc. If this is the case, they will fall under the radar and be around til the end. We'll see what happens tonight!


Sharon & Jacob
I do not see this couple lasting long at all. It's not really their fault though because their twist put them in an AWFUL position. Jacob has a one-track mind and will probably never come around and Sharon is too caught up with the past to ever be okay with working with him. They are already self-destructing and they both appear physically capable, and competitive. Therefore, I see them being viewed as a threat and leaving the house.

So there it is! The power rankings. Right now, Jen & Parker are on top of the house, but for long? Who knows. My nomination predictions:

1.Sheila & Adam + Jacob & Sharon
2. Sheila & Adam + Alex & Amanda

I see #1 as more plausible because they are both the weakest couples of the house. Therefore, nobody will really feel guilty about giving either the axe. We'll just have to see what happens! Until next time!
